Slow Performance on Mac

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" with latest High Sierra OS. The scrolling performance of new Lightroom CC is horribly slow (the adjustment sliders performance seems fine.)  This is the same regardless of how many photos are loaded into the grid (square grid is slightly less choppy than photo grid).
However, I tested on the same hardware in Windows 10 using BootCamp and the scrolling performance is great.
So far, I tried deactivating GPU acceleration with no improvement and reinstall Lightroom CC using the Adobe CC menu.

I verified the ATI GPU is being activated when the application starts.

Any other ideas?

Solved for me with Lightroom CC 2.3. The difference is night and day from unusable with Mojave to super fast and smooth (Mac Pro 2013)!

    Thanks for the update D0nald.

Glad that Lightroom 2.3 solved the issue for you.

With MacOS 10.13.6 HighSierra gridview scrolling is a lot smoother. The only difference between High Sierra and Mojave I notice is the ATI GL Driver version:

I am suffering from the same problem. The strange thing is, performance and especially grid view scrolling was smooth for me with MacOS HighSierra 10.13. It is unbearably slow with intermittent beachballing in MacOS Mojave 10.14.3. I did a clean install of MacOS and Lightroom CC but it did not help. System is a MacPro 2013 with Dual AMD FirePro D500 Graphics. I will revert back to MacOS HighSierra.

According to this link, grid view is only GPU accelerated on windows. Huge bummer. Wonder why?

    Hi Akash.
I worked with Adobe support over chat last night. We conducted a screen share and created a local admin account. In the end, there was no improvement in Lightroom CC performance.

One thing I realized is that I recall this app working smoothly and it was before the switch to Metal API.

I can say it is slow on my Macbook Pro 15 2017, than they say i have not enough power, so i buy a Imac Pro with 10 core, 64 gb Ram, Vega 64, and now: its like the same shit. The Program is slow and i switcht now to my Ipad Pro looool, there its smooth, from 1 Week i Buy a PC ( Windows ) with 8 Core and the Titan XP, and it runns so butter Smooth, so my think is Adobe will you to buy a Windows PC.

Not fine, but its ok. So now i sell my Apple Books and buy a Surface. And yes i make Videos from the Prefomance on the Imac Pro, Macbook and Windows PC. Its very bad, but when Adobe not Suport OS X so whe can do nothing. And no the EGPU ist the same shit :-) nice Wishes from Austria / Tirol.

    Hi whiteonline,

Sorry about the slow scrolling performance in Lightroom CC. Are you using a 5K retina display or any other high-res display with your Mac?

Couple of things you may check:

    • Which mode are you browsing your images in "Photo Grid" or "Square Grid" ?How much storage is showing up as available in the Preferences> Local storage menu?
    • What is the Photo cache size?
    • Making sure that you have the latest version of Lightroom CC installed.

Also, post the System info report  from Preferences> General meu.

    Regards,

    Akash

    • Which mode are you browsing your images in "Photo Grid" or "Square Grid" ?
      • Photo Grid is much more laggy than Square Grid. But Square Grid is not smooth at all.
    • How much storage is showing up as available in the Preferences> Local storage menu?
      • See image below
    • What is the Photo cache size?
      • See image below
    • Making sure that you have the latest version of Lightroom CC installed.
      • This is the case.

I have performed a complete fresh install of MacOS and Lightroom. No changes/improvements in performance.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for providing all the details. Could you please take a look at "Solution 3" linked in this article Adobe Lightroom GPU Troubleshooting and FAQ and let us know if these troubleshooting steps helps in improving the app scrolling performance?

    ~Akash

    Akash,
It has been some time, and I tried all measures to speed up performance. Nothing makes an improvement.
I tried Lightroom CC again in Windows BootCamp, and the interface is buttery smooth. Please advise or escalate with Adobe support.
