When I tried to import HIEF photos taken with a Sony camera from the SD card using Lightroom for iphone, only the photos with portrait composition could not be imported.
I would like to know if this is a problem that is only happening on my device.

Are you able to see and import the same images from your connected device into the iOS Photos app? In general, if images are compatible with your platform and iOS Photos app can see/use the images, then Lightroom's import screen should also see the images.
Is it this Lightroom shows blank thumbs, or doesn't show images at all?

Thumbnails are displayed in Lightroom import screen. I get a message that it failed when import and it cannot be imported. Portrait compositions are also imported in the iOS photo app.

I want to confirm I have the same issue, but on Lightroom for iPad. All HEIF files are visible on the import screen, but after clicking import, only the landscape orientation versions are successfully imported.
Here's some additional information:
- 11" iPad Pro with M2 chip (from 2022)
- Latest version of Lightroom 9.0.1
- Photos are 26MP and 60MP from Sony A7CR with latest firmware version 1.0.1
- Import through SD card
- All the HEIF files can be imported into Apple's native photos app (I've also managed to then share them from there into Lightroom which does work)
- However, in Apple's native photos app only, the image previews seem to be rotated 90° and only adjust back to portrait if you zoom in or attempt to edit the photograph

I am experiancing exactly the same issue. Recently switched workflow to HEIF from JPEG on my Sony A7IV. Lightroom on my iPad only imports HEIF files which are landscape - any photos imported in portrait do not import. Interestingly, if the same photos are imported to the native iPad Photos app, they import without issue (though they do not import in the correct orientation).
This is a real issue for my workflow and it's more than a little concering that nearly a year later, there is no fix for this. Can you please at least let us know that you are working on a fix!
What camera model are you using for capture? I'll see if we can get image samples to try and reproduce this for developers to be able to debug the issue.

Hi Charlie! Thanks for the fast response! 🙂
Camera model is a Fuji X-T5 with Firmware 4.10. I've just sent you a PM with a link to some sample images which I tested with 10.2.3 - import still fails for the vertical one. Import on macOS ain’t a problem. Feel free to contact me for further questions.
We got your sample images -- thank you! Give us some time to look into this.. I follow up with any info as soon as I can. I sincerely appreciate you reaching out!

Can confirm this issue is happening to me as well, Lightroom v10.3.0 on iPadOS 18.4.1, Fuji X100VI on firmware v1.21. Shooting RAW + HEIF on the X100VI, when importing RAWs and HEIFs only landscape HEIFs are imported.
I think someone made a mistake by merging your post into this unrelated thread.
I also think your question may be best answered in the Camera Raw forum, since Lightroom relies on Adobe Camera Raw for decoding lossy and lessless raw images. I'm hoping someone can speak to your DNG conversion matter. I'll move your post.
