P: Support for keyword and metadata editing

Contributor ,
Apr 08, 2014 Apr 08, 2014

I'd really, really like to be able to do keywording on my iPad in the LR mobile app. Could save me a lot of Google-time back at the desktop trying to figure just where I was standing for that shot, and what's the name of that building, mountain, river, village etc, etc

Though it has nothing to do with this topic, on the plus side for LR6 it does now support the TIF format for both import and editing. Perhaps a step in the direction of RAW support?
I'm assuming by access you mean editing metadata because you can view some real basic metadata (camera type, lens, aperture etc) in LR mobile.

Agree and yes; the ability to edit captions and key words is what I would like to see most and it would save me a lot of time. I too currently use a third party App with the same issues as you. Hopefully we will see an update to LR Mobile soon and not have to wait for LR7!

Just wanted to update a bit on the keyword issues in the third party app (Photosmith). The problems were actually due to my errors. However the procces to add keywords, partcularly new ones, is convoluted and it is very easy to end up with stuff that needs to be fixed after syncing to Lightroom.

The good news is that LR Mobile runs on a different release cycle, so there is still some hope!

Maybe I missed it, but does the Android version have similar problems? Is there an easy way to enter metadata via an Android app that could either be written to XMP or into files, so that at least when I subsequently import Lr can pick up the metadata?

The Android version is lagging slightly behind iOS, but the feature set is on the same track.

Yes, but given how long this has been an open area of complaint and the lack of any response from Adobe, it is a small glimmer of hope. Although I do have to admit that even though in LR Mobile's current form I can find no use for it in my workflow, I have left it installed on my iPad just in case that glimmer of hope that we get keyword editing turns into reality. Call me an optimist.

My needs are simpler... although being able to keyword on my mobile device would be nice, what I really need is a way to find select images, using metadata or filenames. Yes, I know I could do multiple collections, but there are still one heck of a lot of photos to wade through to find that one image from 2006 that's needed right now. And now with facial recognition in Lightroom CC (which, BTW, is brilliant!) being able to filter images by people and/or other criteria would be wonderful. Photosmith allows some of this but it's one more layer of complexity - PhotoMechanic, Lightroom, Photoshop... AND Photosmith. Let's keep it simple and add the features we need to our existing choices.

Thanks, I try to be, though this subject is trying my optimism. I should add the app is on my iPad but I don't really use it for anything. It's just there so that I'll know when that glorious day that Adobe has added key-wording, has arrived ; )

I think Adobe could turn the face feature into a visual keyword creator. I actually started using it for keyword not faces, but very specific items like flowers and features in a shot. I wish that could be applied to the mobile version, but for now this will be sufficient.

Keywording is my #1 request. Please add that ability to the mobile app.

Thanks.

Hi could keywording be added to light room mobile. It would be handy to be able to keyword on my iphone/ipad while away from the computer.

thanks

We must be able to at least add keywords and other metadata on Lightroom Mobile. It is ridiculous that i can make critical photographic changes and not to be able to short images or add keywords

Another release, another opportunity lost.

Do you ever get the feeling that Adobe just don't give a dam.

I'd like to use Lightroom on my iPhone for initial filtering/categorization of photos. Something like the following:

1. Import photos into Lightroom on my desktop.
2. Throw new photos into a collection that is synced to Creative Cloud.
3. Walk away.

I'm often on the go and would like to not be sitting in front of my computer to perform the initial review of my photos. Then if I'm at lunch, coffee shop, the park taking a break I could perform the following:

1. Reject and pick photos
2. Rate photos
3. Assign keywords

I can currently perform 1 and 2. Now all I need is #3. 🙂

Exactly my thoughts, bradleyjames!
Adding the ability to assign keywords would close a crucial gap in the Mobile workflow and would make it truly useful.

I installed Lightroom Mobile and CC trial to see if this is possible - something I've wished for a long time - but doesn't seem so. I'll buy the CC plan when this has been implemented.

LR Mobile grabbed my interest NOT because I wanted to edit photos on an uncalibrated postage-stamp screen, but because keywording word be such an easy task during an occasional free moment with the Smartphone. Especially with voice recognition, what a simple task to chip away at the never-ending assignments of keywords. For me, the most important function is missing in LR Mobile.
