Hi.

I have a macbook and can not use Lightroom cc with an external ssd (to save the originals there).

When i change the location of the local store in the preferences then i can not import any photo...

WHY?

The SSD ist formatted with Apple APFS Filesystem and connects with USB3!

This is very strange!!! Because a another external Drive (HDD, not formatted in Apple APFS) is working fine!

What can i do?

Thanks!

This might be the clue to the problem. Apparently Lightroom Cc is not correctly dealing with your apfs formatted external. So perhaps there is a bug with Lightroom CC with apps formatted externals. Very possibl that nobody has noticed because so few people use the local storage and even fewer have apfs  formatted externals. Apple as far as I know still recommends against using the file system on external drives and says to only use it on internal ssd drives.

    Hi.

yeah i think you‘re right and it seems like that this is the problem.

Apple are recommend the APFS File System for Flash Devices like an SSD.

So, in my opinion, we need an solution from Adobe.

Where can i report my problem?

    Thanks.

It sounds like the format is set properly on the drive. Is there a chance that the permissions level is set incorrectly for the user account. Or the read/write property is set wrong? If you do a CMD I on the drive, what does it show you for permissions?

    Hi.

on the external drive the permissions are set property in my opinion - cmd i shows read and write in the permissions section.

Other Applications like Apple Photos (Photo Library) can write on the external drive...

I am totally clueless about the Mac. But it is possible that the EHD is asleep and therefore not available? Just a thought.

If you're really talking about Lightroom CC (the cloud-based version), you can't use ANY hard drive on your computer to store your original images. They are stored in the cloud. That's the whole purpose and format of Lightroom CC. You can save copies to a hard drive connected to your computer or in your computer. But your original files go to the cloud. Or, are you referring to something different?

Hi. I know that in Lightroom CC the Original Files are stored in the Cloud. Thats not my Problem.

But in the Lightroom CC Mac App you can choose a folder to save local copies of the files (or the smart views).

And i want to save local copies on a external ssd... and this is simply not possible, because the Lightroom says theres no permission to save the file. :-(
