Mixamo Copyright on Machine Learning

Hello,

I am conducting a machine learning research. I want to use mixamo characters and animations for purely visual purposes in my thesis. Machine learning part of my thesis focuses on pathfinding, not animations or characters. In this case, is it a copyright infringement for me to use mixamo characters? I wanted to ask because I came across contradictory statements on this subject.

Mixamo characters are used for the presentations I will make on my thesis and to appear in the article. They will not be in the version I released as a program.

Thanks

If it's purely for visual purposes in your ML project then you are good to go. For more information and specifics around what  is and/or not allowed, see the pinned post at the top of this forum page. You can also find additional details regarding the restrictions on ML projects here

Hello, I definitely do not use any mixamo elements for machine learning. One of the purposes of the program I have already written is that it can work with any character, so that someone who will use the program can easily add their own character. I had completed the machine learning part of the program using a standard capsule object as a hitbox. Currently, the program can be made operational by adding any character mesh or 2d sprite under the capsule object and making only the capsule dimensions suitable for the added character. I wanted to add Mixamo characters and animations visually for the presentation and article, as the running of the character would look nicer and more understandable than the running of a rectangle or a capsule.

I had already looked at the pinned post on the forum page, but I just read the additional terms file you sent. Law in English can be difficult for someone whose native language is not English, especially if they are not a lawyer. But I think you are right. In this case, it seems okay to use Mixamo characters and animations. Thank you for your response.

law is just as hard to understand when you know English as well + Adobe is even harder because of the vague "improve" terms

sounds like you already have the answer but i'll walk with you on this.

you can't use the software to 'teach' a machine is a clause Adobe tossed into the mix after they got Mixamo and i assume thats because some little bubble dev team is working on it so they don't want people stepping on them

there is nothing in the old Mixamo licence about it but Adobe owns Fuse\ Mixamo now and yes 'infringement' is the outcome unless you walk around the issue, like using Steam Fuse with Iclone animations or design your thesis in two parts perhaps

Thank you for your response. The interesting thing is, I haven't used any mixamo objects to teach a machine anything. My capsule character had already overcome all these things. I wanted to use Mixamo characters in the presentation. But as you said, it seems like it would be better if I somehow found a different solution.

It's weird when you see a restriction on your work in a place you use all the time. You can't help but ask if I'm missing something. Thanks again.
