Can no longer drag files into photoshop from windows explorer

This only recently started happening after the last beta update. I tried updating windows and restarting but now help. I can manually open images still by double clicking or using the file menu.

I downgraded from beta 25.4 to 25.3 and I can drag photos in again.

Well after downgrading it nags me to update  since it's been 5 weeks between updates. I went back to 25.4 and I can still drag photos in so I'm happy with that.

Well now the next day after a reboot it's doing it again. Have to downgrade and upgrade to fix again I guess.

Hi @WabbyTwax76 this sounds like a corrupt prefs file, so we would suggest:

Update to the lastest Ps beta: Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.6.0 20240217.m.2506 d5ee5e5 arm64

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ Photoshop Beta Settings (Mac Ventura)
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings (Mac)
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings )Win)
Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut
With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

Hi Cory,
Recently updated Photoshoop Beta to 25.11 and now my drag and drop function seems to have stopped working. I've attached a screenrecording. I've tried resetting the preference, uninstalled and re-installed PS Beta and still not working. Please help and THANK YOU! 🙌🏼

Downgrading to an earlier version does work.  This appears to be a photoshop bug.

Hey all, could you share your workflow, steps, that you both are doing when you have this issue, ie is Ps open or not, are you dragging from windows explorer to the Ps home screen or to..?  We want to make sure we can reproduce the issue so any updates will help us.

Following up to my previous reply. I also noticed generative fill wasn't an option I could use also. I closed the beta, ran my non-beta version, logged in, closed that, ran beta again and I was able to drag files in and also the generative fill option was there. Seems it has something to do with not being logged in properly.

For what it's worth, I found it affects all Drag and Drop operations in Windows and other Apps as well, one application gives me an error: “A drag operation is already in progress” and closes down. As soon as I shut down Photoshop (Beta), it comes back.

I'm having the same issue. I have Photoshop open, I select a jpeg in Windows and drag it onto my Photoshop screen and nothing happens. I've always done it that way. It was quick and easy. Please, please fix this Adobe!

You have to log into adobe with your account in another app. Or try logging out then back in with another app or other version of photoshop. Then open photoshop and try it.

Can I ask what you mean with 'another app'? I have Photoshop on my Windows computer, nowhere else. So what is meant by another app please? Also, how do you downgrade to a previous version of Photoshop as I'd like to give that a go too. Not being able to drag photos in anymore is a huge inconvenience. Thanks.
