New feature now in Photoshop Beta, Bullets and Numbers

Hey everybody, we are happy to announce a new feature in Photoshop Beta, Bullets and Numbers!
(Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.10.0 20240523.m.2629)

What is this and how would I use it?
Imagine you're working on a design project and want to add some text, maybe it is a list of essential points or a step-by-step guide. You want these lists to function but also be visually appealing. That's where Photoshop's Bullets and Numbering feature comes into play.

Why is it important?
The Type tool itself is one of the most used tools in Photoshop, Bullets and Numbering is one of the most requested features in the Adobe Community.

Photoshop customers want a quick, easy way to format a paragraph where each paragraph return becomes a bullet or numbered list item.

Earlier Photoshop customers were creating bulleted points using glyphs and had to add them manually paragraph by paragraph. We hope with this addition the process will be an easier and more fluid workflow.

We have also added a preference for those who want to turn ON or OFF auto detection of lists while typing.

Please share your feedback, and as always we hope you find this addition a benefit to your workflow.

This has potential, but the way is implemented is bit halfway, and it actually disrupts the workflow.
you can't remove the automatic generated bulleted lists on the properties panel or with backspace (to indicate that you do not want the bullet list to be automatically converted)  so for example, if I enter an asteriks and copy, i do not want this to be a bulleted list, but it keeps converting itself to one.... and the only way to avoid this is by deactivating the feature.

I'm on 24.4.1 Release.

I am definitely still finding it a pain in the rear end.  When you get a bullet or number that you did not intend, you then can't get rid of it, and unless you use text a lot, you are probably going to have to stop what you are doing, and go hunt for information on how to cancel out of them.

FYI you can control them in the Properties panel, but they are probably going to be hidden unless your workspace has an uber-large space for that panel.

Obvious, I know, and equally exactly where you'd expect to find them, is the Character panel.

I'll not forget this going forward till I am even older and greyer, and hopefully nor will anyone else who sees this thread.

Are they useful?  I guess, if I am being kind, but I'd rather have control of how my bullets and line numbers look, and I strongly suspect that nine out of ten Photoshop users are obsessive compulsive about this stuff.  It's no biggie to hit that button every time, but I would _much_ rather be able turn them off and have them stay off.

Here are a few things I am bumping up against with the feature which might warrant an RFE:

  1. The auto selecting bullets seem to be limited to certain UTF position characters in the fonts, none of which make sense for what I am trying to do.
  2. I cannot find a list of the auto select bullets anywhere, which means I am stuck trying to find a suitible one somewhere in some font set.
  3. The lack of formatting control will be an issue
  4. The lack of the ability to visualize the bullets/numbering formats for indenting makes issues.

Honestly, while PS is not a layout/text editor, there are MANY situations where bulleted/numbered lists make sense from a design perspective.  PS tends to be a catch all in many industries, being bastardized into layout visualization, graphic arts, and advertising desing, all of which would be made much easier with the ability to powerfully insert dynamic bulleted/numbered lists into the design.  I am personally using it for preliminary layout visualization and am attempting to make a simple list of checkbox options, but I cannot get anything that looks like an empty checkbox into the bullet.  This is severely slowing my prototyping process.

Is there a way to define spacing between bullet point and line start?

Thanks for this !
I'll create a thread but I think it will be seen faster here :
It seems that the new update broke something in the Processing from Bridge ... the processed photos are not closed in Photoshop Beta. I am using actions.

I tried in regular Photoshop, the photos are closed normally when using the action. But when using Photoshop Beta, all the processed photos remains opened .... (so imagine when selecting 50 images to batch process ...)

I'm so glad to see this feature finally being implemented in Photoshop....

But is there no way to format the bullets/numbers? For example, I'm working on a numbered list and would like the numbers to be a different color or weight than the text.

Hi @ohbfcu thank you for your suggestion. At this time it is not possible but we will be happy to add this to a list of future improvements.

Thanks,

Works a treat @CShubert , and I love the context sensitive Properties Panel and Contextual Task Bar.

I see the Paragraph Panel has also been updated, but it feels likely that most people will use the Properties Panel.

I especially like the three dots to expand and contract Proprties Panel sections, although you can end up with quite a screen full.  We have control over what functions are shown though, minimising cursor movement.  It feels kind of crazy obsessing over a few inches of cursor movement, but it annoys the heck out of me.

What I would love is to be able to twirl those sections open and closed with the cursor keys, to make the most of available screen space, like we can in Windows File Explorer, and apps like Outlook.
