Photo Restoration Neural Filter now available in Photoshop Beta!

Hello Beta Community!

We are excited to share that Photo Restoration is now available in the Photoshop Beta. Photo Restoration is a new Neural Filter that uses an AI trained model to help restore old or damaged photographs. Using the Photo Restoration filter, users can restore the quality of their images using the basic editing options or choose to further refine using our advanced options (adjustments). Once complete, there is always an option to export the image to the main Photoshop workspace for further refinement.

Main Editing Features:

• Photo enhancement - Improve color, contrast, and details
• Enhance faces - Improve the detail on face specifically
• Scratch reduction - Restore areas of the photo that have been scratched or damaged (off by default)

Advanced Editing Features (Adjustments):

• Noise reduction
• Color noise reduction
• Halftone artifact reduction
• JPEG artifacts reduction

To access the filter, go to File > Neural Filters > Photo Restoration and switch the toggle to “on”. This will initiate the filter download and activate it for use.

I just upgraded to Topaz Photo AI and it does a remarkable job with faces in damaged or low res photos. It does not however remove/repair imperfections. You still have to do that in PS. I have also tried Photo Glory with mixed results. It tends to oversharpen and add too much contrast. If  Adobe can manage to fine tune this filter they'd be the only act in town.

One more update, all the same, I don't think it will ever come back, I'll try to follow the work of third parties since something happened with Adobe and this filter, very disappointed:-(

I have tried it many times on historical old black and white images and i don't like the results. It is too aggressive and even so it does not take away small scratches. It removes grain and small details. i prefer much much better the old Dust and Scratches plugin where I can fine tune much better. This restoration filter is a big disappointment so far. Hope it improves.

The neural filter team will be making some changes in the upcoming releases based on all of the feedback we've received, though I don't have an ETA I can share on that. Hang in there and stay tuned for future updates.

It was very strange that Adobe never clarified what happened, perhaps for rights. Removed AI functionality in this filter 15 days after release. Since then they have been trying anything like contrasts, noise and other adjustments but without any interest. what really mattered was the AI reconstruction, AND THAT NO LONGER EXISTS IN THIS FILTER. hope to come back one day...

I am finding the Photo Restoration very slow. I have set the Photo Enhancement at 50, the Enhace Face at 62 and Noise Reduction at 44. It has taken an hour and a half and the Processing on Device indicator has just shown a small amount of blue on the left. Any ideas of what the issue could be?

Im running 24.0.1 and the photo restoration filter has been saying it's "temporarily disabled this filter because of an error" for about a month now. Any ETA on when it will come back. I've only gotten the chance to use the filter once before it went down and it worked well

So just updated the Beta, and the Photo Restoration Filter has been disabled due to error..... I think its about time that someone gave a real update on what has happened to the version with Ai functionality and best version in my opinion. If it is never coming back, just say so.
