Unable to Open Picture from Lightroom Classic in Photoshop (Beta)

Explorer ,
Mar 27, 2025 Mar 27, 2025

I just updated Photoshop (version 26.6.0), (minutes ago) and now when importing a photo from Lightroom Classic, I can't get the photo to open in Photoshop. HELP I'm in the middle of editing wedding photo's and don't have time for this.

I've tried Cntrl-E, and right clicking-open in Photoshop. It opens Photoshop, but doesn't bring the picture in.

I am using Windows 11.

Hi @Kjenson it sounds like something became corrupt or did not intall correctly.  The solution is to uninstall Ps beta and then do a clean install.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

The same happened to me today, but with both beta and stable versions of Photoshop. It works fine with my secondary external editor which is Topaz Gigapixel. Also, I tried opening it as a smart object and it did open, but when I went to save it an error was thrown. I uninstalled Lightroom Classic and reinstalled it. Same issue. I decided that instead of troubleshooting any further I would just restore my Acronis backup from 2 days ago when it was working. I will report back on the outcome.

Thanks! I’ll have to try that when I get back home and I will let you know if it’s successful.

I restored my entire system drive to its 03/25/25 state and it's working again. I am back on Photoshop Beta 26.6.0. Creative Cloud is once again telling there's an update to it but it just says v26.6 with no incremental number shown after it. I checked the "What's new?" info but it doesn't mention a fix for this problem. As such I will leave it on 26.6.0 for now. Does anyone know if there will be some sort of notification that this particular issue has been fixed?

Be careful! I encountered the problem after updating to PS v26.5 (not beta) today, not with the PS v26.6 (beta) update. I updated to PS v26.6 (beta) later, but it didn't solve the problem. The workaround is still working fine, but I hope there will be a proper solution to the problem soon.

I noticed this morning that there was another update but like you said it had the same number 26.6.6 or something like that. I updated and nothing changed.

I haven’t had a chance to uninstall and reinstall, but I’m not really wanting to waste the time since others have done that and it didn’t change anything.

LATEST

FYI I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom Classic and it made no difference. I realized then that I could either go down the rabbit hole of troubleshooting all the related apps or just roll my system back a couple days. I chose the latter. No regrets.

Today I had the same problem after installing PS v26.5 on my Mac running Sonoma 14.7.4. Under LR clasic v14.2 with Camera Raw v17.4, files transferred from LR to PS (beta) v2.6. would no longer open. Reinstalling PS (beta) did not help. Obviously the file name is no longer transferred correctly to my registered default editor PS (beta). As a workaround I have now entered PS (beta) as secondary editor in LR. This means that the transfer of the file from PS (still) works and the result edited in PS (beta) is also returned correctly in LR.

Good to know I'm not the only one having this issue. Hopefully they come up with a patch soon.
