Just a few notable bugs in the new update 24.5...
1. Often, but not always, single keystroke invoke of tools doesn't work, i.e. hitting C to crop.
2. Older filters don't show a preview, even when clicking in the preview pane and releasing.
3. Many report loss of presets and actions.
I would have hoped the PS team would have tested this release much more thoroughly prior to releasing it. What was the big rush? Deadlines for release should not override thorough testing. We expect more from Adobe. This is why we pay such a premium for the product.

Hi @woliver1 for 1 - go to Preferences/Tool and disable Spring Loaded Tool Shortcuts.
For 2 - Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.
For 3 - make sure you have you saved your presets and actions and then migrate them to the new version:

Hi @woliver1 one thing I noticed - You have two GPUs one underpowered and your main one. Photoshop cannot utilize both and can cause issues.
Here’s how to resolve (deactivate the Intel UHD): https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html#multiple-gpus

Kevin,
Thanks for looking over the info. I use the 2nd GPU for my 2nd monitor, and only run PS on my primary monitor which utilizes the NVIDIA GPU. So, I prefer not to disable the Intel GPU for that reason. I'm not aware of any technical reason that would create a conflict in doing so. If you think otherwise, let me know - I'm open to learn about that.
Note, the NVIDIA control panel has changed a bit since that post, and no longer has the option #2, which specifies that a program only use a particular GPU. It now only provides a list of GPU features in which a program can use, or not. The defaults for Photoshop look correct, or at least acceptable. (see image below)
For item 2, disabling "Spring Loaded Tool Shortcuts" seems to have helped resolve the keystroke invoking of tools.
The only issue I have with item 3 is, while PS is "supposed" to migrate presets and actions during an upgrade, if it does not do so for a particular user, there is no recourse. If they were not prompted to "save your presets and actions" before an upgrade, then they are not likely to remember to do so. One option would be to have PS periodically save them behind the scenes so that there is a redundant copy that can be salvaged. The other option would be for PS to halt an upgrade until some script is performed. The upgrades are no longer like in the old days, when the previous version of PS was saved and still existed on the PC. With Creative Cloud's notifications to upgrade on the fly several times a month, as a user we never know if the upgrade we are about to perform is a minor one, or a major one, and when it may cause such problems. I remain adamant that Adobe has more work to do to improve their customer experience in this regard. Thank you.

I've had other photo buddies tell me they lost all their presets and preferences in the update to rel. 24.5 too!
Usually we are prompted - Do you want to carry those things forward? (obviously not the exact verbiage, but you get the idea). That should be the case for all Ps updates. Not just the annual ones in Oct. BTW, I'm addressing this to Adobe and not just to the original poster...because I'm not updating until I know the issue with the Prefs/Presets not carrying forward with a prompt is fixed. And, there are new features I'd like to begin using...

Hi @woliver1 your UHD Graphics 750 does not meet minimum requirements for current Photoshop builds.
It clocks in at only 810 ops/sec and the recommended minimum is 2,000.
Why would you want to use the lesser card for your main option when you have a newer faster 3060 Ti available?

Kevin, maybe I wasn't clear below... I am using the NVIDIA for Photoshop and my primary monitor. I only use the Intel for my secondary monitor, which is never used for Photoshop. Sorry for the confusion. Thx.

Attach both monitors to the Nvidia. It should easily support both. Before getting 3090, I had 2-4K monitors on a 1080.

Hi @woliver1 I totally got it. What I'm telling you is that Intel card will not work.

Hi @woliver1 a couple things:
Vendor name: NVIDIA
Driver date: 2023-01-15 000000.000000-000
Driver age: 4 months
Driver version: 31.0.15.2824 - if there is an update install and restart, do the same issues persist?
Have you tried rolling back a version, do you see the same issues?

Kevin, I suppose we are not on the same wavelength... your last comment "that Intel card will not work" is a bit confusing, in that I don't use Photoshop on a monitor attached to that card. Are you implying that somehow Photoshop is grabbing the wrong GPU when displaying on my primary monitor? I can't think of a scenario where that would be possible. Here is a quick drawing of what I tried to describe below...

Cory,
No, I haven't tried rolling it back. There have been bugs with the NVIDIA drivers that caused some other issues. So, once I find a fairly stable release, I stick with it for a while. The issues I'm having with PS are small enough that it just wouldn't be worth my time to experiment too far. I'd rather wait and see if other PS users experience the same issues and wait for Adobe to fix it with a PS update. While unfortunate, we as users cannot always aford to be the debuggers, just reporters. I hope you understand. Thanks for the input though.

Nvidia specs say you can run 4 monitors up to 7680x4320 on a RTX3060Ti, what are you gaining from using the Intel graphics?
Copy link to clipboard

Given my typical program usage, I'm likely not gaining much. If I were a gamer, it would provide a significant benefit. However, I am old school - the Intel graphics is built onto the motherboard/CPU, so why not use it? It doesn't diminish overall performance and allows the NVIDIA graphics card to do less multi-tasking and utilize all of its resources for PS or other video editing programs. I typically have five or six programs open on the Intel driven monitor, which means the NVIDIA GPU is now free of dividing its resources by 5 or 6x. That, to me, is simply good utilization of available hardware, hardware that I didn't have to add-on.

Hi @woliver1 not sure what else we can offer in terms of a solution other than what was already posted. Ultimately it is up to you on how to proceed.

Kevin, thanks for the responses and I will periodically try some ideas and check back to the forum. I did try one more thing, which you may want to ensure others do as well. In Win 10/11, you must also ensure Windows does not randomly change the GPU utilized for an application, as all image rendering it is not governed by the adapter-to-monitor connection. Getting to the setting is under Settings/System/Display/Graphics... then selecting Desktop App, then browsing to your application, i.e. c:\program files\ adobe\adobe photoshop 2023\ and selecting the exe. Once there, you will be given options for Let Windows Decide, or either of your other GPU's. I did not have this forced to the NVIDIA (but did have it set within the NVIDIA control panel), have changed it, and will experiment some more and see if that helps. (see screenshot)

By using the on board graphics on the cpu you are making that do more work, so it will draw more power and run hotter , it wont maitain the high boost core clock speeds for as long, which are very beneficial to photoshop compute speed. So you might be making yor system less efficient.
Nvidia ditched dual card SLI set ups for gaming, so what does that tell you about the benefits of running two identical GPUs let alone a discrete one and cpu graphics.
The main reason as others have stated not to run the intel graphics is that it is likely to cause the exact issues that you are suffering from .
Thats three reasons not to.
The puget benchmark plug in for photoshop will allow you to test for any gains you may or may not be getting from having both running.

I would agree with that. But... Since I'm not using the Intel GPU for Photoshop, the Intel CPU/GPU are not running hard at all and there should be no power or heat issues. I have monitored both, and confirmed the Intel is basically fine in that regard, as well as the NVIDIA.
I think we are all in agreement to not use the Intel for Photoshop, and that's what I tried to explain to Kevin above... I'm not, or at least I'm trying to ensure that is is not doing so.
I don't see the need to disable the Intel GPU, as I really don't see how it could be affecting Photoshop as long as PS is utilizing only the NVIDIA GPU. I can't foresee any downside of allowing the Intel GPU to run my secondary monitor and other applications, browsers, etc., while PS is up and running on the NVIDIA.
In reality, even PS isn't putting much strain on the NVIDIA, as I simply can't process my workflow that fast. I would have to be doing some fairly high level automated actions or video editing to push that card to the extreme. The issues I'm having are not related to GPU horsepower, but more likely configuration, conflicts, etc., or PS itself. Thanks for your thoughts and advise.

Thankyou, yove made my point for me. Your RTX3060 is massively understressed by the workload you are asking of it, so why insist on trying some janky configuration on your nice modern powerfull PC? . I dont think you isolate Photoshop from the intel gpu just by keeping it on the monitor connected to the Nvidia card thats an over simplification.
Anyway good luck,Im finding this version very good so far in terms of GPU utilization and more capable of handling large files than previous versions, your missing out by not taking Kevins advise!,

You keep insisting to use the Intel GPU, although it's still incomprehensible why you would want to do that. It is not necessary, there are no advantages, but there are heaps of potential problems - some of which you are probably already seeing.
The point isn't whether you have Photoshop open on that screen or not! The point is that the system will report this GPU as available to Photoshop, and that can cause conflicts. As of now, there is still no way to "lock" Photoshop to one GPU. This is probably a limitation in Windows. If it was possible, it would have been implemented long ago. It creates that much problems.
The role of the GPU is much more extensive than you think. It's not just display. It doesn't just go one way. The GPU is used for actual data processing, actual computer work, and then returned to Photoshop for more processing. That equation can only contain one GPU.

Unfortunately, this thread has turned way away from my original questions about several issues experienced within the new release of Photoshop. While I realize everyone is here are more experienced than myself and enjoy helping, I asked for advise on specific new release issues and am disappointed in the tone of the conversations, and level of condemnation, that followed.
I said from the onset that I wanted to learn - that doesn't mean chastised... "I use the 2nd GPU for my 2nd monitor, and only run PS on my primary monitor which utilizes the NVIDIA GPU. So, I prefer not to disable the Intel GPU for that reason. I'm not aware of any technical reason that would create a conflict in doing so. If you think otherwise, let me know - I'm open to learn about that." I had already reviewed all of the prevailing help articles in Adobe's forum prior to this and found many articles recommending the use of one graphics card for all applications. However, even Adobe experts warned against disabling the internal Intel GPU, as it may lead to unexpected behavior. (see screenshot)
So, my original intent was to simply see if anyone else was experiencing issues under the new release, since the issues were not present prior to that release. Kevin resolved my issue #1. For issue #2, it would seem that there has not been enough user input on the new release to determine if it has affected the processing of previews. My issue #3 was not technical and was a project management issue that really wasn't important. Thus, I consider all issues resolved. I appreciate the other input and will tweak my hardware configuration if I experience any issues in that regard.
