(10107211) Photoshop 2026 and 2023 crashing

After updating LR Classic, LR does not recognize my PS 2023. when I try to edit in 2023. Additionally, unless I open PS 2023 and the newest version of PS 2025/v. 26 by deleting the preferences, I cannot open the programs. Using Select and Mask in PS 2025/v.26 crashes the program every single time. Even using the TK9 plug in crashes the program. I can't disable the GPU because I can't open the program without resetting my preferences, which reenables the GPU. I am on a Mac Book Pro, 14" 2023, Apple M2 Max, 96 GB Memory, running Sonoma 14.5. I have tried reinstalling the most current version of PS without keeping/migrating my preferences, etc., but I am still having the same problem. I would appreciate any advice that can be provided and TIA!

Hey, @mrholevar. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I've checked the crash report submitted through your account & the issue is not identified yet.

Does the crash persist when Lightroom Classic is not being used?

As a test, try these steps:

1 - Try launching Photoshop while keeping the SHIFT key to skip loading 3rd party plugins at launch.

2 - Try Photoshop (beta) from the Creative Cloud desktop app, apps > Beta Apps section.

If it does not help, please uninstall Photoshop & update the macOS to the latest versions available & install Photoshop again.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi Sameer @mention,

Thank you for your response.  Yes, the problem persists even when I do not have LR Classic open.  In addition,  I tried opening both PS 2023 and 2025v26 while holding the SHIFT key as well as trying to open them holding the SHIFT-COMMAND-OPTION keys and deleting the preferences.  That would open the programs, but I could not shut them and reopen them without holding down the SHIFT-COMMAND-OPTION keys, losing all of my preferences each time. In addition, I was unable to use my TK panels with the programs, as clicking on any mask or selection through the TK panels would crash the programs. After that, I uninstalled both programs and re-installed them.  The problems persisted.  I gave up and uninstalled 2025v26 and tried the Beta PS, which works without problems.  As a temporary fix I installed PS 2024 as a poor substitute for 2025v26 and I installed PS 2021 to substitute for 2023 (but I cannot use my TK panels in that version), because I like to have one PS version that runs on Rosetta so that I can access my older filters and also my legacy extensions.   I have not updated PS 2024 to 2025 because when I did that, the program kept crashing.  I really don't want to change my Mac OS from Sonoma to Sequoia, because I am afraid that my older PS programs will not run on Sequoia, and I would lose my ability to use legacy extensions and my older filters.  Sorry that this is so convoluted, but I tried everything that I could think of to rectify the problem prior to posting my problem.  Thank you so much for your help!  Michelle

Hey, @mrholevar. Thanks for sharing this. If Photoshop (beta) works as expected, it could be related to the plugins.

As a long-winded step, try creating a new Administrator profile on MacOS and checking if the issue exists.

Follow here the steps: https://adobe.ly/40BxZoz

Thanks!

Hi Sameer @mention,

Thank you again for your suggestions.  I created a new administrative account, and the same crashing occurs with PS 2023 and 2025/v. 26.  I'm happy that PS 2022, 2024 and especially PS beta are working.  I'm wrking around the problem with LR Classic not recognizing PS 2023 by dragging and dropping the image that I want to edit into the app which I am keeping in my Dock.

You can add Photoshop or Photoshop (beta) to the dock by right-clicking on the icon while Photoshop, or Photoshop (beta) is running to pin the icon to the dock.

It looks like one-on-one support will be able to help you investigate this. Please head here (https://adobe.ly/48Ut7Nd) and select the chat button in the lower-right corner of the page. We can help troubleshoot faster that way.

Thanks!
