Cursor Issue in Photoshop

I've found that when I'm drawing in Photoshop at the end of a brushstoke the tool cursor momentarily appears as the mouse cursor. It's only for a slip second and appears as an annoying flicker with repeated strokes. I'm not sure if this is a Photoshop issue or perhaps an error with my Intuos Wacom Tablet. I've using the latest driver, version of Photoshop and Ventura 13.2.1.

This issue is worse when working on a new .psd file for some odd reason. Any suggestions?

HI @daveallsop go to Mac System Settings/ Accessibility/Display and make sure your "pointer" size is not increased.

Hi,

I just wanted to follow up as I'm still encountering thids problem: I appears that as soon as I create a new layer, the jittery cursor issue happens for a minute or so, then the error stops. But it starts again whever I create another layer. It's very frustrating; doesn't any have any ideas or suggestions?

I reported this on the bug tab but it was moved to the Discussions tab, and the thread posted by someone else was merged into an unrelated topic.

You should record and upload it like me. This is quite a bothersome bug.

In my experience, the version where this issue is definitely not happening was 24.0, but some users should have rolled back to 2022 or 2021.

I thought this was a single issue with Windows 10, Windows 11, and there were a lot of Windows 10 users reporting to other threads and Reddit as well.
However, it is very strange and unfortunate that even people who use Mac OS like you have this mouse cursor bug.

I hope Adobe staff will look into this well. At least your thread...

Please take a look... This video is the best example of the problem we're having.

I've reported this since version 24.0, but it doesn't seem to have been categorized as a bug.
And if you look at what I've replied to another thread, it's been posted a lot in communities like Reddit.
And some people are also going through this in previous versions of Photoshop.
Every time you use a brush or clone stamp, the brush cursor changes to an arrow, and it's very, very uncomfortable that you have to draw it again with your hands off to release it.

Perfect reproduce viedo. That's how Windows 10 bugs you, and it's shown with the default white arrow.
I hope this is fixed. Until this is fixed, all 2023 versions except 24.0 are versions that are difficult to apply to and use in real workfellows.

to follow up,

I think this has something to do with History. When I create a new layer, the error is very apparent but once the History list is all brush tool I think the problem goes away - until I create a new layer, or use another tool/or say, use Hue/Saturation - then the flickering cursor occurs again until the brush tool fills History. It's very annoying.

@daveallsop a very interesting approach. I think that might be right.
Because I get that bug when I'm rubbing the brush or the Cloenstamp, and the moment I take it off, it's back to normal, so maybe something's going to happen while it's being recorded in one history. Of course, the biggest point is that you don't work for a long time enough to cover the entire screen with a single brush, but that bug occurs every short moment.

To provide you more info,
as far as I can tell the Photoshop bugs are both on Win and Mac, albeit manifest slightly differently. The root seems that Photoshop messes with the videodrivers - maybe the memory, maybe screws OpenGL.

I guess the assumption is that nobody uses anything else besides Adobe apps, while in reality for most people Adobe is just another tool running in parallel with others (3D progams in my case).

Anyway, Photoshop breaks videodrivers in a horrible way on each system. More specifically, On Mac, the mouse cursor behavior in OTHER programs is broken (cursors become incorrect, dont change at all, or change at an offset location). Grabbing window edges or separators becomes almost impossible (as if the edge is only 1 pixel thick... on a retina).

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Are you getting crashes or slow response time? If crashes, have you sent them to Adobe via the CrashReporter method?

Yes, I've had one crash in 2 weeks, so it's hard to say crashes are common.
What bothers me is that Photoshop, after some usage, breaks the cursors in OTHER programs on MacOS. As I've described above. And if the cursors dont behave correctly it's really hard to work.

Sure, I will update to the new version (the "old" is about a month old, and the cursor complaints have been festering in Adobe forum for quite longer).
Sure, I will test without the plugin, it's a reasonable ask (though as you know this is a file export plugin, nothing to do with cursors)

1. if you care to open the previous info I've shared, you will find that the bug is present even with 70% memory usage (its obviously a completely unrelated problem)
2. if you care to read the info, you'll notice the MacBook Pro in question has 64 Gigs of RAM. Should I undestand from your advice that Photoshop does not work correctly with less than 70% of that? If this is the case, would you kindly announce it publicly, so people can benefit from the knowledge: "Photoshop under MacOS malfunctions with less then 44 GB of RAM available exlusively to it"
