PDF "Not compatible with this version of Photoshop"

When creating a PDF in Photoshop version 24.7, the file is not able to open after a few hours. We tried updating to the newer version (25.0) but the file doesn't seem to open.

The error message shown is;

Couldn't open "file_name.pdf" because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop. The file is created in this exact version (24.7)

OS is Windows 10.

I am having the exact same issue - just started today.  I saved a file last night as a .pdf and it opened just fine.  This morning I get the same message Couldn't open "file_name.pdf" because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop. The file is created in this exact version (24.7)

and I have done the same thing - tried opening it in different version of photoshop -  it opened in illustrator just fine but turned my text into traced so I am unable to make edits to it.

@UNStudio5CB0 how are your colleagues creating the PDF? What settings are they using when saving from PS?

In Illustrator go to your preferences and disable GPU Accelleration and try opening the PDF again.

IF that works - its your GPU drivers.
Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

Hi @Kevin Stohlmeyer

Thank you for your time and answers. I have to confirm your last answer with my colleague to rule that out.

However, if I open the PDF file in Adobe Illustrator, it gives an "An unknown image construct was encountered". I don't have much indepth knowledge of Adobe programs, but can it be that something is used within the file that causes the incompatibility?

But the file is able to be opened immediately after transferring/saving to the share?

If that is the case - this isnt a software issue. Something on your network share is affecting the files after they've been on there for 2-3 hours. Perhaps a security scan?

We've tried to open it locally, but that gives the same error. The most recent update we had was from Adobe Acrobat. (updated from v22 to v23) Tried downgrading to version 22 again to see if the files were able to open again, but that didn't work either.

My colleagues create the file, save it on the network share and after 2-3 hours, the file is not able to open with the error message in my original post.

Does this happen with all files saved directly to the share?

What happens if you save local and copy to the share or drag back to local and try opening there?

Wondering if something in the read/write process accessing the share is corrupting them.

HI @Kevin Stohlmeyer,

These files get saved on a network share.

@UNStudio5CB0 where are you saving the files?
