P: Adjusting layer properties doesn't work for Hue/Saturation/lum. HSL layers

The tab to click on and change the properties for an adjustment layer randomly disappears. Quitting and re-opening the app solves the issue, but it will happen again within minutes, usually when switching between different projects or different app on the computer.

On Photoshop v26.6 - Mac Mini M4 pro, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try clicking on the hue adjustment layer, not the mask, and select the preset to default. Does that help?

This started a while ago, but because I didn't have a clear idea on why this happened or when., I waited until I gathered enough information.

1. When I delete the layer mask and add a new one nothing happens. When I delete the adjustment layer itself and create a new on nothing changes.

2. I tried opening and closing properties from windows tab... I closed the properties box and then reopened it, but nothing happened.

3. It works when I restart PS. However, sometimes I would have other files open at the same time but Hue and Saturation is normal. Also, I don't want to keep closing PS and reopening it every time.

4. This happened right after an update. It was normal before. I didn't do anything to it or change any settings. (Actually, I posted this here because I was hoping someone would tell me how to bring it back to classic setting)

Same or similar problem here today. New Hue/Sat layers do not have Hue/Sat properties available in the panel... only mask. Also "target selection" no longer works with keyboard shortcuts.

PS 26.7.0 running on Mac OSX Sequoia 15.4.1:

Creating a new Hue/Sat adjustment layer intermittently results in a layer whose Properties panel includes ONLY a mask, and no properties.

PS must be re-launched in order to access the hue/sat controls.

Additionally, the "direct selection" tool can on longer be selected by use of a keyboard shortcut. I.e. the key board shortcut is in place, but the key fails to select the tool.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Has this issue started occurring after the recent release? I recommend resetting Photoshop preferences to see if that resolves the problem.

Before doing so, please make sure to back up your preferences, as resetting will restore everything to default settings.

Sort of difficult to get a screen recording since the trouble is intermittenet. The pattern seems to be: I'm working on a .PSD image without difficulty. I open a second, or then maybe a third .PSD and while working in that file, when I go to add a Hue/Sat adjustment layer, I get one of these corrupt layers without properties (only a mask). It does not matter if I use the adjustment layer icon in the layers panel or go through the menus: once the corrupt layers start, the only workaround is to save, quit, relaunch.

Let me know if I can add anything else.

Attached a video example. Project A Loads both Hue/Sat and Mask properties no issue. Project B loads Hue/Saturation as a Mask only layer and won't display the layer propertiers to adjust, no matter what.

Inconsistently happens in 16bit and 32bit projects, couldn't trigger it in 8bit projects.

The layer is bugged. I have a couple projects that it won't load the layer at all, but it will in others.

Even attempting to copy paste the layer from a working project to the other one breaks it. Between working projects, copies fine.

To help us investigate further and escalate this properly to the product team, could you please share the following:
1. A sample PSD file where this issue occurs (preferably “Project B” as mentioned).
2. Your system information from Photoshop: Go to Help > System Info and copy the full output into a .txt file.
3. Any specific steps (if known) that you take before the adjustment layer becomes non-functional.

Once we have this information, we can investigate further what’s causing this and share it with engineering for a closer look.

I haven't noticed any rythm or reason for the bad layers. Only that once a bad adjustment layer appears, all subsequent hue/sat adjustment layers are also bugged (i.e., with mask tabs, but no property tabs). Relaunching PS, any file works fine and new adjustment layers work... until at some point another bad one crops up. I could send a file in which this has happened, but they're quite large and I do not hold copyright to the images... they'd be secure?

When I put 'Hue/Saturation' adjustment over some layer it works, and at some layer it doesn't work and only shoes the mask at the properties.

For instance if I make a layer and put a image on it, hue/saturation works.

But if I 'edit+make a group+duplicate+emerge' and select hue/saturation, it come out like this

no matter what I select, it shows only this.

And sometimes if I move the layer down to the layer I edited it works again.

But if I move the hue/saturation layer up again, I doesn't work again.

If I click the rainbow color wheel in the pinned bar, this message comes out.

My photoshop, mac version is updated to the latest version!
