P: Can't cmd+tab to web browser (Chrome ver: 16.0.912.75) from CS6 (OSX/10.6.8)

When cmd+tabbing between Photoshop CS6 and Google Chrome, Photoshop document windows remain visual on top (but inactive). The web browser window is called up over other applications, but remains behind Photoshop. The problem seems to only happen when switching to Chrome.

Interesting. LIke I said, three systems at my company replicate it.

Here seems to be another person on windows having a similar problem with IE.

So either something hasn't been checked right in preferences (which is unlikely since other programs switch without incident)... or this is indeed a bug?

We had upgraded from CS5.5 to 6, and I've had to repair the install twice already.

Also Chris- to clarify, I'm operating with document windows, not tabs.

This same issue keeps happening on my system using Firefox.

2012 Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display
OSX 10.8.0
Firefox 16.0.2
Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 x64

If I restart the machine, generally it doesn't occur for about an hour or two and cmd+tabbing between Firefox and Photoshop will eventually lock up Photoshop. My work around is to do the keyboard shortcut like I'm going to force quit Photoshop (cmd+alt+esc), then I can move the Photoshop window behind the force quit window and reactivate it.

Here is a screenshot of how Photoshop appears when I cmd+tab to activate it after this issue starts:

If you have a document open, then somehow the window order has gotten messed up.
What we need to know is why it happens sometimes for some users, and never for others (like me) - so we can reproduce it and track down the cause.

Hi Chris,

I think I pinned down a reproducible test scenario.

I have a couple different Wacom tablets, but this issue only appears to happen when I am plugged into my Wacom Intuos 1 (first generation).

I'm not sure if the original poster was using an Intuos or a tablet, but it happens just about instantly when I plug my Intuos in, just cmd+tab between any app and Photoshop (not just Chrome, Firefox, but also Spotify, Adium and any other app running in the Dock).

I hope that helps!

Unfortunately this problem is still occurring with Photoshop and my 1st generation Intuos Wacom tablet.

I believe it started after I started using Mountain Lion installed in my new Macbook Pro, as I didn't have a problem before with my older model Macbook, Photoshop or the Intuos Wacom tablet.

I was just curious if there was any progress made on this topic?

We haven't been able to reproduce it. We've found other Wacom specific bugs (and contacted them for fixes), and more than a few OS bugs related to app switching (and filed them with Apple) - but this one we just haven't seen.

Происходит похожее. Mac Os X Mavericks + Photoshop CC + Lightroom 5.

Through similar. Mac Os X Mavericks + Photoshop CC + Lightroom 5. Very often move between Lr and Ps. In Lr converted image in ps, everything is fine, process it. Further, a combination of cmd + tab back to Lr for the case after seeing a play window Lr, but when you click the mouse on any panel on the front pops photoshop. Transition can only be done using exporse or if you click the mouse on the window title Lr ((

Yep, same for me. Chrome and Photoshop exactly as explained. It usually switches after I've cmd+tab about 5 or 6 times in a row, or if I head back to PS and switch tools or something. Seems quite random, but I've gone through 3 Macs in the last year and they've all had the same problem in both CS5 and 6 and a whole bunch of Chrome versions (as they've come out)

This is happening to me too. CMD + Tab from Photoshop to Chrome. It switches the active application, however it does not bring Chrome to front. It shows Chrome in the Menu Bar, but Photoshop remains on top.

I am also having this issue. It started sometime at the beginning of the week. All other browsers operate as expected. It is only photoshop that has the problem with Chrome as well. All other applications CMD + Tab as expected.

This is the only forum I can find anyone else reporting a similar issue.

We have the same issue on our computers running OS X 10.11.2, Adobe Photoshop 16.1.1 (the Creative Cloud version) and Google Chrome version 47.0.2526.106 (64-bit).

Has somebody with similar configuration not that issue?

Thanks for any help!

Three people posting about this in one day after it's been gone for a year -- probably means that a Chrome update reintroduced the bug. Please let Chrome/Google know about this so they can fix it.

We observed that only OS X 10.11.2 computers are affected. We can't reproduce this behavior running OS X 10.10.5.

Any movement on this? It happens consistently to me. Also confirmed with 3 others on our design team.

CMD + Tab from Photoshop to Chrome switches the active application, but does not bring Chrome to front. Chrome shows in the Menu Bar, but Photoshop windows remains on the top layer.
