P: Color ball when switching selection tools using shift-w - M1 macOS 12 Monterery

When shifting between the 'select subject tool' and 'quick select' tool using Shift W, PS hangs (spinning color ball) for about 9 seconds.  Repeatable and only between those two tools.  Video attached.

I'm still having some issues with the object selection tool. Now, the same issue appears when I start to select something for the first time. Once the tool is selected and I made my first selection after waiting for the color ball, it works fine.

English below (google translate)

In umgekehrter Richtung funktioniert alles reibungslos.  Die Option "Objektfinder" ist deaktiviert.

Hat eventuell jemand das gleiche Problem, dann wüsste ich zumindest, dass es nicht an meinen Einstellungen liegt.

Beste Grüße M.

Hello, I have a small but annoying problem with the object selection tool.

As soon as I have selected the "Object Selection Tool" and want to switch to any other tool, the system waiting wheel appears for about 1-2 seconds. Everything works smoothly in the opposite direction. The "Object finder" option is deactivated.

If someone has the same problem, then I would at least know that it is not due to my settings.

Best wishes M.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We're here to help.

Is this happening just with "Object Selection Tool"? Did you try doing any troubleshooting so far?

Try to rest the particular tool once, if that doesn't work reset all tools.

Check other steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-troubleshooting.html#tool

After doing the above steps if the issue persists, you may try resetting Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ranjisha

Thanks for your fast reply. I tried all of those steps before, but it didn't work out. I just tried it again to be sure, but there is no improvement. Furthermore, I recognized that anytime I'm using the "Object Selection Tool" (which is pretty amazing, thanks Adobe for that) to make a selection the waiting wheel from macOS appears for some seconds as well.

It just happens with the "Object Selection Tool" and only one way. Anytime, I'm switching from any tool to the ""Object Selection Tool"". All other tools are fine as far as I know, and I tried a few.

I attached a video which shows the problem.

They just wouldn't release an update for an issue? That would be a little insane. Eventually this has to be fixed, especially as more people get the new MacBooks. It's clearly an issue with apple silicon and the newest object selection update.

The best for now you can do is to vote, otherwise engineers may not fix it.

So, with Object Selection tool selected, when switching away from it to any other tool, it causes Photoshop to lag (the spining beachball) for 2-3 seconds. Every time. Very strange issue, I cannot find anything about it anywhere on google, yet my friend with the same machine is experiencing the same issue. Anyone out there have this symptom?

The thread has 'crash' word in subject but some users reported the freezing:

Object Selection Tool crashes Photoshop

Actions and scripting tag is not needed.

Thanks for that. Also posted another bug via a separate thread

Thanks. I can repro on my M1 now that I've updated from Big Sur to Monterey. I'll have engineering take a look.
