P: CS6/CC Menus blank (white) Mavericks Mac OS X 10.9

Explorer ,
Oct 24, 2013 Oct 24, 2013

Hello, I hope I am in the right place for this:

I am on a Mac 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I just installed OS Mavericks. I am running Photoshop CS6.

Randomly throughout using the program, my windows/palettes (i.e. the layers palette) will become white. Even the "Save" window menu will become white. It's still functional (if I press enter on the save menu, it will save), but I can't see any of the options. I've uninstalled the program and reinstalled. This has unfortunately not solved the problem. Please help

Thanks for the help in advance!

Michael

MacOS 10.9.3 is now available, and contains a fix for this MacOS bug.

You should continue using the plugin, however, because the plugin also contains a fix for another bug that has not yet been addressed.

Sounds like installing and running from new Admin account fixed this for you based on your comment on the U2U forums. http://forums.adobe.com/message/58019...

When using Photoshop CS5.1 on the new Maverick OS, after installing the Java update, menus occasionally go completely white, forcing me to quit the program and restart. Is there a fix to out there for the bug?

Are you using a Wacom tablet? Do you have the latest driver? (See posts above, you may need to install and use the driver from a new admin user account)

Hey Jeffrey, thanks for your help, but is this Adobe's final solution for this bug? I would prefer not to create a new user just to run Photoshop. As of now, I only have one user, which is the admin. Is this something Adobe can't fix through a programmer's update?

Since I updated to Maverick on my mac when I use Photoshop it locks up almost every time I have used it. I am unable to even quit out of the program and get a white area wherever I click.

Having had the same problem, I installed the latest wacom driver and upgraded to latest version of Ps. Worked fine for about 7 hours, unfortunately the menus are turning blank again now for some reason.

Solved / Fixed blank menus bug.

I have had this error, blank menus in photoshop cc on mavericks. I am using a wacom tablet.

I updated the drivers to the latest via the wacom website. I did not uninstall old ones first, I just ran the installation that I downloaded.

Since updating the drivers, I have not experienced this problem at all. I was getting it every couple of hours at least. I have not seen it in the last 30 hours.

There are a few other bugs in cc that this did not fix, but it did fix the blank menus.

Thanks for setting me on the right tracks, hope this helps anyone else.

Paul, which Wacom tablet are you using and which driver number? I have the Intuos 4 and I never saw a post-Mavericks driver update for this model.

Another customer on twitter said that disabling "Displays Have Separate Spaces" solved his white menus issue. Could folks still having issues with white/blank menus try the following:

Go to System Preferences>Mission Control, and uncheck "Displays Have Separate Spaces" Log out and log back in (or restart the system) for the change to take effect.

Hi David, you should be able to use MacOSX - Driver 6.3.7-3 (10.6x - 10.9x) under "Latest Driver for Intuos" on this page: http://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers

I have been having this issue, and it has been causing me a world of issues, every ten mins i was having to quit PS CC.

I downloaded a driver from the UK Wacom Support with no success.

I disabled the Separate Screen rubbish, no joy.

Finally installed the driver mentioned above and it seems to be ok, but this is very early days. The Driver on the Wacom UK site is from the 11th of Oct and the US driver is from the 15th of Oct.

Hopefully will solve it. Will post an update after more testing.

Pete

No. It's not the final solution, but it's a troubleshooting step that will provide additional details (permissions issue). It may well be an OS configuration problem. It takes ~3 minutes to create a new user account and run the test.

Thanks Pete. I was dubious about the Separate Screen Setting. Let me know if the current driver remains solid.

Thanks Jeffrey. Hi David, yes, the version I have is the one from that page. However, I have the Bamboo, not the Intuos, so there may be a difference there.

Hi Maria, try one more thing. Uninstall the current Wacom driver, create a new admin user account. Install the latest Wacom driver from the new admin user account and run Photoshop from the new admin user account and see if the issue persists. Some customers reported having a two fold problem of the driver being out date and some permissions error that affected the latest drivers.

After reinstalling drivers and doing a preference reset in photoshop I still had blank menus after about half an hour. I did the driver reinstall one more time strait from the Wacom web site, so it should have been the latest driver.

I thought that I had solved the problem as I hadn't had blank menus for a whole day. Until now.
Its back so I believe that updating drivers has no effect or only temporary effect.
I will try the US driver to see if that has an effect and also try disabling "Displays Have Separate Spaces".
I will report back if these do anything.

Update:

After creating a completely new user and carefully migrating select files and reinstalling applications and drivers, I had the same blank menu problem in Photoshop last night.

My system was working smoothly after several working days previous to this. Here is what I had done:
• I turned off 'Displays Have Separate Spaces' (I noticed that when I was working on my cintiq monitor, the top menu bar would occasionally flash on my laptop, prompting me to disable.
• I ran a disk utility to repair permissions (of which there were quite a few)
• I went to 'Wacom Tablet Utility' in applications and created a 'backup folder' and 'restored' my tablet.
• I reset Photoshops preferences as suggested
The cobination of these changes made my computer recognize my tablets and drivers upon startup and eliminated the blank menu problem until last night.

After performing every preference/utility/new user/driver suggestion listed I still encounter a few issues:

• The brush stalling never went away
• The polygonal lasso tool, occasionally 'acts a fool' (technical term). Albiet less often now.
I called Wacom:
"They're working on a new driver", "reinstall the old OS"...

THANKS!

Michael
