P: Keyboard shortcuts not working correctly when spring loaded shortcuts are enabled

No idea for a title that better describes the issue.

If I'm in PS and I press the shortcut for a 'brush' type tool (dodge/ burn/ brush/ clone etc), when the brush of that tool is large enough to touch the edge of the screen (in the used zoom setting), PS instantly switches back to the previous tool. Not every time, but often enough to be very annoying.

"Solution" in that case is to either zoom out, or press caps-lock (so you don't preview brush size).

AFAIK, this issue has existed since at least Photoshop CS6.

PS CC 24.1.0, OSX 12.6.1 on a MacStudio (before that it also happeneed since PS CS6 on a MacPro and previous versions OSX).

Thank you so much for this answer. I was having the worst time with my quick keys seemingly not working right. I frequently jump between the stamp (S) the healing brush (J) and the brush (B) and would have to type each letter multiple times before it would "stick". Changing the timing sensitivity to 400 fixed it!! I am very grateful!

Settings like this, it's still happening:

I think that changing this setting (never saw that before) here from 200 to 400 might have fixed it for me though.

(better than unchecking it alltogether)

Dag, @ReneDamkot @I think that If your thread is merged into another one, you get one, not if another thread is merged into yours, but I might be wrong.
threaded view might help in joined thread.
that said, we did not have the home page circa CS6, maybe same symptoms, different cause?

Oh boy.

I've re-enabled the homescreen, as @PECourtejoie suggested, but I'm not sure what annoys me more; the bug or the home screen. If I can stand it long enough, I'll report back 😉

Side note: IIRC, when topics ware merged there used to be a notification of that merge? Now this thread is a bit of a mess, since different (? or maybe sideways related) issues are running together. I for one cannot follow...

Gooie avond, @ReneDamkot au contraire, I think that disabling the home screen is the trigger, could you please try re-enabling it, just to check @--rick 's findings ?

Photoshop 24.1.1

Windows 10

Some shift hot keys such as alternating through tools (Shift+B to alternate through brush, pencil, color replacement tool and the mixer brush tool) still work but others at random do not. Shift + Ctrl+S is not working for Save As. Shift+Ctrl+J will not Create New Layer Via Cut.

I know it isn't my keyboard because it's working right now as I type this out. I'm not sure what the issue here is within Photoshop because the Shift key clearly works for alternating through anything on the tools bar.

It isn't the worst thing in the world but it is an annoying disruption of work flow to  have to use the upper tabs to perform some functions. Any tips or ideas? Thanks!

Hi @Seichi28270028czw5 sorry to hear this.

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Restore your preferences using this manual method:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

Thank you,

Cory

Ah. Disregard my last two posts. Someone seems to have merged a few different topics together.

(How do I delete a post?)

No. That's something else. I even mention 'spring loaded keys' in my second post…

I have disabled the 'Home screen' since it was added to PS. So I'm sure that's not the issue in my case. 😉

Thanks. I was able to repro and shared the details with engineering to work on it.

Workaround: Go to Preferences > Tools and uncheck "Spring Loaded Tool Shortcuts."
