Recently I noticed the latest release of PS that memory use has double when just starting the program. Also it is sluggish when closing down. Before when starting PS and sitting at the startup screen the memory use was around 400mb. Now at the same place I'm hitting around 1,543.8mb or more and I haven't opened a file yet.
If you disable "Load Extension Panels" & "Allow Extensions to connect to the Internet" under Preferences > Plug-ins and then launch Photoshop with the shift key down to disable 3rd party plug-ins, is the memory use what you expect?
Sorry for taking so long. With the first option, "Load Extension Panels" & "Allow Extensions to connect to the Internet" it does seem to start faster, however the memory usage is still high, 1,535mb. Am not complaining as everything works but maybe adobe could/should update their system requirements for PS. I used to be able to run LR with PS and not have the efficiency reading drop below 100%, now however it goes to 45%. It's ok as I'm not a LR fan and rarely use it.
----------specs------------ hp h8-1080t 6 core @3.2g 12g system ram. (I know it would be helpful to up the ram but am saving for a new system. even though it ran older versions extremely fast. only 17.1.1 seems to really lag on high end systems as seen in the forums.)
Windows 10 pro (holding off from getting creative update, heard of PS problems with it.) GeForce 1050 2gb pascal graphics card. latest drivers Samsung 840evo 512g ssd c:\ for windows/programs only, no data 1.5tb hdd data disk
Over the weekend I did a few edits and than exited them. All of them were jpgs at 72ppi 960 X 1200, nothing huge. Left PS running and looked at task manager. What a shock as nothing else was running other than windows.
