P: Photoshop 23.2 freezes on macOS while changing layer styles/opacity on a PSB file

Using macOS (latest version) on an iMac Pro. Changing the opacity on a PSB freezes up the program for 5 to 10 minutes at a time where you cannot do anything in the program. No spinning beach ball, just stuck on the arrow with no ability to cancel, exit, or do anything. Just started after I updated. Super wierd, but problematic.

This issue should be addressed by the 23.2.1 update that went out early this AM.

Does it happen with all files? or specific files?

I've tried adjusting opacity of layers, adjusting layer effects, etc and cannot reproduce on macOS 12.1 with Photoshop 23.2.

If you have a specific file or setting that always triggers it, please share the PSD. That might be the fastest way for us to reproduce the issue.

@Gabriel231985358wtt When it crashes, do you get the crash reporter dialog? I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system. If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html That will help us diagnose the crash.

Hi,

There is no repoert opportunity. It freezes and sits there. I have let it sit to see if it allows for anything, and only can see the PS says Application is Not Respoding.

This is going on from the moment I updated.

Still was freezing so I ended up downgrading to 23.1. When the freeze/crash happen PS doesn't give out the report window.

What happens is PS becomes unresponsive to anything for 5-10 mins and if your lucky it comes back.

How can I downgrade the update.

You want to go back to previous versions?

In Adobe Creative Cloud, select PS, click on the three dots and select "Other Versions".

Thanks everyone. We were able to reproduce. Best bet until we have a better solution is to roll back to the prior version 23.1.1: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

We'll update this thread when we have an update or fix.

I am having the same issues as others posting here with 23.3 in Mac, it freezes constantly particularly with layer styles. And like a previous poster I cannot even send the crash report to Adobe since the only way out is a "Force Quit".  How long before you have a fix for this bug ~ it is really bad!

Hello!

I'm looking for some help because I'm facing some bugs on Photoshop 2022 with my M1 iMac (16 GB RAM).

Whenever I try to like change the opacity or the size of an effect like drop shadow, the settings just froze and I can't close the layer style window (I can move it though), the buttons/settings does not respond.

One time I had to wait like 30 minutes to be able to do something.

Most of the times I just close Photoshop by force but it's annoying.

On the screenshot below, I just tried to change the opacity and it froze.

I don't get it because it's not like the action request a lot of RAM? On Illustrator sometimes it takes a lil time for big big task (3D by example) but that's all.

Thank you for your help!

Mine freezes as well. Pretty annoying since, you know: it's a professional, premium-priced piece of software! Hope I can downgrade.

Mine crashed when trying to use "Selective Color" and "Photo filters". It froze when trying to adjust the oppacity on the "exposure" layer and now PS won't open at all. It attempts to then shuts down.

Photoshop has begun to freeze whenever I open up 'layer style' and I have to force quit the program to get out of it. It started today and I can't use the service for work at all.

Would appreciate immediate help as this might put me in a bad situation with my clients.

There wasn't an easy explanation on where to send the monitor sample that was requested, so I added it here.

I have the same problem. One solution might be to reset the Photoshop preferences and restart your computer. At least for me that worked. But as soon as I change some of the standard preferences the problem appeared again.

Mine freezes, if it crahsed you could get a crash report and find the issue at Adobe.  But the freeze requires a "Force Quit" which does not report to Adobe.

same exact problem... you need to issue a fix to this issue immediatly. this is unacceptable behavior from a piece of software i 'rent' for over $50 a month... you need proper QA on your releases... and get rid of that horrible BRIGHT BLUE SHARE button you added to my toolbar in this update with no way to remove while you're at it...

Yeah, that share button is just ridiculus. Who the hell asked for this feature? Meanwhile I still miss the long gone ability to sync workspaces between devices. Which was removed because it was too difficult to understand. But now I'm able to share potentially confidintial work at the push of a button?

Been using Photoshop professionally for more than 25 years at this point, and it gets more and more toy'ish and unstable with each upgrade. Seems that Adobe forgot that they're catering for professionals first and foremost (hence the rental price).

Best of luck to you, Affinity Photo / Designer / Publisher. I'm rooting for you. But until there is a concensus and accept about using non-Adobe applications, I guess I'm stuck in this vicious rental scheme...

Since the update to Photoshop 23.2.0 it crashes in 80% of the time when I use a layer style or if I want to modify a layer style. I have an Macbook Pro Apple M1 Max running on Monterey 12.2. When will this be fixed? Honestly, since the launch of the new Photoshop version I'm having tons of trouble.... bug after bug!

Hi. Check these tips: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illu...

If you can't solve the issue, you can try installing the previous Photoshop version: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

Amen!

I wish the latest Mac version would still support CS5.5. The CD is standing right beside me and I'd love to work with that instead of CC. Photoshop just crashed again. Added all together it destroyed 3 to 5 hours of my work this week (and in addition I spent a lot of time figuring out why). I'm paying for that program every months and it just keeps getting worse with every update.

🤔 hmmm… I wonder if Adobe’s freefall on Nasdaq with 280 $/ share since december 2021 has got anything to do with bad management?
