P: Photoshop can't open, freezes on splash image, uses all of ram trying to open then crashes.

I have googled every possible variation of this problem and tried every fix for this problem, none of them worked. I have tried reinstalling photoshop, deleting everything even remotely related to photohop in the appdata, deleting custom fonts, restarting the computer, updating graphics and computer, and holding every possible combination of alt, ctrl and shift while trying to launch in administrator mode. The result is always the same. It opens the splash image, gets to loading preferences or brushes, spikes RAM usage to every last byte of RAM I have, freezes the computer, then crashes.

And no i'm not running it on a potato i'm running it on an Alienware Aurora 4090, it should have more than enough power to handle this and Photoshop ran perfectly fine for months. Then just today it crashed and has never started up again.

Photoshop version 25.11

Help.

Had this same issue. Removed all the beta apps I had installed and it finally worked.

Yes. It works. Remove every BETA.  I have Macbook Pro M1Pro  Sonoma 14.5 and it worked for me.

:headdesk: Beta software is for testing. Its incomplete and my be unstable, cause conflicts, crash, and so on. Don't install it on a production computer.

I'm pretty critical of Adobe's software quality and design, but betas don't fall under that.

I use Photoshop daily. Two days ago it just stopped opening. Both the Beta and the production version. I am on the latest version.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing.

Tried installing earlier versions.

Tried deleting each program and starting over.

I'm on Sonoma 14.6.1

M1 Macbook Pro

The splash screen opens and then freezes. Screenshot attached.

Found this https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-photoshop-can-t-open-freezes-on-splash-image-uses-all-of-ram-trying-to-open-then-crashes/idi-p/14781463

Turns out I had the beta of Adobe Encoder installed. Uninstalled that and now photoshop beta and regular are working again.

That will do for now.

Agree that Adobe needed to be much more forthcoming but CoryShubert's fix, posted 5 days ago worked perfectly. I just had no idea that the problem existed and it wasn't until I had time - I worked around using LightRoom -  that I found the issue and the solution.

One risk should not be making every graphic program unusable...and waiting weeks to offer a simple fix    Adobe just lost the trust of every beta tester

Beta versions are for testing and are supplied "as is" and there might be risks in using them. It's best not to install Beta versions if you're not prepared to take the risk!
