P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I  now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed? 

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled everything and this is still what I see. I will admit that the specs on this computer aren't great but it was able to run PS fine up until the most recent updated version.

I have the same situation since version 25.9 in German language.
"Photoshop.exe - Anwendungsfehler
Die Anwendung konnte nicht korrekt gestartet werden (0xc0000142). Klicken Sie auf 'OK', um die Anwendung zu schließen."
The update was just today via Creative Cloud. In version 25.8 there was no problem. The other applications (Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Bridge) are running after the update.
Please help us! I'm using Windows 10 Home in 64-Bit with Intel 3.07 GHz and 24 GB RAM.

OK Here is a new one for you. My Version of 25.9 does not allow me to sign out or sign in. I can just use it with no sign in. I don't know maybe I should thatnk Adobe for a free Photoshop. I have called them and they don't know or uderstand what I am talking about.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but your system is just too old. I don't get upset that I can't run Windows 10 or 11, or the current Creative Cloud programs on my January 2006 dual Opteron 290 system. It still runs great, but it is simply too old to support the modern technologies required by current software. It would be unrealistic to expect Adobe and Microsoft to continue supporting it. You got over 14 years out of your system, and that's great, but it is time to get something newer.

As far as I see you have the recent version of the CC clinet installed. The only idea I have in the moment is a complete and clean reinstallation.

Please follow the steps below:

• Backup all personal data, like templates, presets etc.
• Uninstall everything cc including preferences,   https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
• Then uninstall the cc desktop app,   https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

• Clean your computer of cc files per  http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
• Restart your computer (don't skip this)

• Reinstall the cc desktop app,   https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/desktop-app.html
• Use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials
• Restore your personal data.

If you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 4 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)

My computer / processors were working fine a couple of days ago....now I get the 000142 message and the program will not open...My Photoshop 2024 was updated to 25.9 four days ago....now Photoshop 2024 will not open.

I am paying by the month and have no idea when this will be fixed. Have tired many workarounds found at Youtube without success.

Same problem here, with the latest Photoshop non-beta version and an old CPU / Windows 10 Pro 64bits (Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz Socket 1366 LGA). I had to revert back to the previous version.

I'm having the same problem. Even tried reinstalling, no difference.  All of the other adobe creative cloud apps run fine.

I fixed this problem by uninstalling 25.9 and installing 25.7 (prev version). Apparently adobe is working on the problem.

I also had to revert back to the previous version in order to use Photoshop
2024 on my desktop, which is a 12 core Xeon machine. My laptop will open
the new version, but my desktop is where I do almost all editing.

A lot of folks, including me, encountered this problem after Photoshop 2024
was upgraded to 25.9.

Some processors will not run version 25.9.. Of course, Adobe didn't warn
anyone of this potential problem. My laptop runs the new version fine.

I had to downgrade Adobe Photoshop 2024 in Adobe Cloud to version 25.7 so
that I can use Photoshop 2024 on my desktop.

Same here, also with an old CPU (i5-750) but fairly new graphics card and enough RAM, no problems whatsoever with other apps or previous versions of Photoshop... if these CPUs can't run newest Photoshop thats OK, but you (Adobe) shouldn't make it available, just offer an option like you do with Premiere and After Effects

Same problem here. (old intel i7 with GTX 1050). Although Creative Cloud says: supported on this device, Photoshop 25.9 does not run and gives application error 0xc0000142. I re-installed version 25.7 which runs fine.
