When I create a droplet in Photoshop 2025, it creates a folder instead of an EXE file. What is the solution?

DROPLETS WORKING IN THE BETA VERSION!!! I'm now able to make a Droplet with the Beta version 26.11.0. But still not fixed in the current version 26.10. Install the beta and move on, but the next regular update should be the end of this it looks like.

I have escalated this issue and asked the team to prioritize a fix for this.

It is definately Sequoia that caused the hiccup. Sequoia 15.5 did not fix it either. Nore will any Apple update.  Adobe needs to address this as it is their ownership.  Two weeks ago I reached out to Adobe via telephone support.  Unfortunately that's an hour or so I'll never get back.  The support person had me doing a number of sequences, including rolling back several versions of Photoshop.  Nothing helped bring back the ability to create droplets. Since a support ticket regarding the inability to create droplets was created, the did reach back and this was their response:

Yes, after checking with the team it seems like the issue is specific with the Mac OS sequoia versions, we request you to update your Mac OS to the latest, if you are working on the latest version of Mac please wait for the next Mac OS updates and recheck the issue.

If there are any other queries please feel free to contact us back.

Thank you for working with us,
Adobe Customer Care.

So there you have it....

  • Adobe knows it's a problem
  • Adobe blames the problem on Apple Mac Sequoia
  • Instead of Adobe attacking the problem, they say Apple needs to fix the problem.

What am I missing here?

Anyone?

WHY IS THERE TOTAL RADIO SLIENCE ON THIS FROM ADOBE?
THIS IS BAD BRANDING.

They did reply. They are aware. They are just dragging their heels on correcting the incompatibility between Sequoia and Photoshop.  The fact that they suggested we wait of Apple to fix this is head scratching. This is not an Apple problem. This is an Adobe problem.

Well then, what is the truth?

ADOBE:

1) Is this issue a macOS problem that you can not code for?

2) If you can fix it, are you working on it?

This has been going on for months now. I can not tell you how much time and money I've lost manually processing hundreds or thousands of actions without simiply droping files on a droplet.

PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED.

Your last post appear to be from April 11, 2025.

It is now Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Can you please provide us with a status updaate?

Thank you.

John

I received this from Adobe yesterday:

Thank you for your time & patience.
Our team is recreating the issue with different Mac OS Sequoia environment to find an resolution to the issue.
We request you to please wait for the next upcoming updates for Photoshop.
The case will be closing automatically however it will still be saved in our archives, we request you to wait for the Photoshop updates.

So, I guess we wait for Adobe to engineer a fix.

I have same issue. Just gives me error and creates a folder.

Yes, this works. You have to go into security settings on the Mac now and allow the droplet to run EVERY SINGLE TIME you create a droplet. You create the droplet, try and run it once, you get the error, and then you go into security and alow it. But you have to do this with every single droplet now. Sometimes when I'm working on a project I'll create a droplet and then delete it when I'm done with that project. Sometimes multiple times a day, so this becomes a real pain in the rear every single time. Is there a way to fix this?

@bellevue scott, this is NOT the same issue. This thread is about not being able to CREATE a droplet. Your talking about an issue that has been going on for years since macOS Ventura and is due to the security restrictions added to macOS by Apple. It's not an Adobe issue. But yes, I agree, it's a PITA none the less.

Hi, when I attempt to create a droplet I get this message:

'Could not complete the Create Droplet command because the file was not found'.

Then this appears instead of a droplet.... please help, I have thousands of images to process and currently the only way to do so is to open and press play onm the action script for each image.

Screenshot 2025-06-03 at 08.53.27.png Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the party. Unfortunately we're waiting on Adobe to create a fix.
Hoping one will be engineered soon. You can also create some automation by
using batch.

You can run batches from Bridge insteaďof using a droplet.

Batch processing in Photoshop or Bridge does not have the same utility that Droplets do. I can't tell Shortcuts to open a PDF with Bridge and batch it. I need Droplets for my workflow, there is no substitute. Anything else is manual and time consuming.

Batch Processing from Bridge is quite a bit more capable and flexible than a Droplet because it can be scripted.

Yes I'm aware, but I'm a graphic designer, not a coder. Scripting doesn't replace the simplicity of recording an action and saving as a droplet. It's not even in the same ballpark. Adobe and Apple need to play nice and work together to fix this problem.

I'm just pointing out a way to get the job done. I'm a product photographer and use Bridge and Photoshop every day in production, and I've never used droplets. So there are other workflows that are just as easy and powerful.

This is not an Apple issue. Strictly an an Adobe issue.

Much appreciated. If they don't fix this that will be the road I have to go down. But I think saying "just as easy" is debatable.

This problem started when macOS updated to 15.4 and affected all versions of Photoshop. I have the same version of Photoshop running on mutliple macs, in 15.3x it works, in 15.4, it doesn't. Yes I agree it's an Adobe issue because they need to make sure their software works on the OS it's running on, but it wasn't an Adobe update that broke the Droplets, it was Apple.

Dear Adobe

Droplets are an integral part of my work flow. I have several Adobe subscriptions and use PS on a half dozen computers, both Windows and Mac. I believe that with the money I pay, I should expect to have a working product.

I cannot count the number of times that droplets have broken on both Mac and Windows in various ways. Please stop blaming Microsoft and Apple. You're a mega-company. Please figure out the problem and fix it. Please stop using your professional user base as beta testers. Please fix the droplet issues, and please, really, test droplets before you make new releases.

Thanks for that, Scott!!! Right on point! Just curious, what issues have Droplets had in Windows?

with Windoze, permission issues. Droplets stop running and can't execute. Recreate the droplet and give it administrator rights. I can't remember 100% off the top of my head, but I think we still have issues on one windows machine. I'll ask my staff. But they're always similar to the Mac. Permission issues. Security issues.

I wonder if an AppleScript or Automator droplet would work for this? Automator can run both AppleScripts and JavaScripts which are both supported languages in Photoshop.

Yes I know there's scripting options out there. But that's a huge departure from simply recording an action and saving as a droplet. I've used Automator for years to open PDFs with a Droplet to make a proof, now I use the Shortcuts app. But I also use Droplets for several other quick tasks like resizing, cropping, etc. I really shouldn't have to learn how to code a script to replace what I could do with a simple GUI interface.
