No, v26.9 installed and working here on Windows 11

Try holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift when opening, and then say yes to reset preferences.

If the resetting of the preferences doesn't help please check if your system is up-to-date.

Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

I do have the exact same problem. Last week everything worked out fine and I was able to use Photshop. Since this week it does not open with the exact same error message mentioned above. I deinstalled and reinstalled Photoshop twice, but still the same problem. The newest version is installed. Any ideas?

I do have the same issue, but on a German system. Neither changing preferences nor switching languages did help. The issue occured with update to 26.9, with Photoshop working fine in all the years before it.

@joergs18224797 I'm also on a German version (Windows) and I don't have such problems. So I think it isn't a general bug, it's device specific.

Check if your system is up-to-date. Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. Hi Axel,

thank you for your answer. Yes, the system is up-to-date, and everything
worked just fine right until the Photoshop Update to 26.9.

Also, as previous posters, I cannot provide the system information, as
Photoshop is simply not starting, so I have no access to menus within the
software. I am sure, however, that Adobe would not force a software update
on me, if it is incompatible with an existing system. 🙂

I guess it would already be helping, if the customer-facing error messages
would be descriptive...

I do hope that a Photoshop update fixes this issue very soon, as I actually
need this software.

Best regards,
Jörg Stimm

Since the update to version 26.9 I do have the very same problem. I was advised by Adobe support to  change the installation language for Photoshop to English. Well, that is what I did. However, it did not change anything. I know do get the error message in English and not in German any longer.

I expect that there will be a fix soon and I am not keen on paying for a software I cannot use.

Or is there any other idea, what there is to do to make it work again?

@Eneko37392667ncu1 it sounds like it's a corrupted preferences. Have you tried a simple restart of the application, it often clears up temporary glitches. I am assuming this worked fine just recently. Since the problem started suddenly, it's a strong possibility that you may have corrupted preferences are a very common cause of unexpected behavior inPhotoshop. You can try a quick reset by holding down Command Option Shift (Mac) as you launch Photoshop. You will be asked if you want to reset your preferences.  If the quick method doesn't work, you can manually delete the preferences file. You will need to close Photoshop first. The location of the file depends on your operating system, so you may need to search online for the specific path for your OS.

Which (exact) version of Photoshop and OS?

How much RAM and spare hard disk capacity do you have?

You can reset the Photoshop Preferences back to the factory defaults under the General tab in Photoshop Settings (then closing and reopening the application).

Hello everyone,

My problem is the same:
The program does not start, instead an error message appears.
The problem appeared after the automatic update to version 26.9. The installation language is English from the beginning. The environment: Windows 11 Pro, AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16.0 GB RAM.
Before this, there was no problem.
The report from the Windows event manager is available at the following link:
<Incorrect file type>

I am waiting for urgent help, because I can't work!!!

@JDavid_ Without any detailed informations all is a guesswork.

Do you get any error messges? If yes, please post the exact message word-by-word.

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver? If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Try to reset the Photoshop preferences manually. See here Preferences in Photoshop and scroll to section "Reset Photoshop preferences". Near of the end of the document you'll find how to reset the preferences manually.
