When creating a PDF in Photoshop version 24.7, the file is not able to open after a few hours. We tried updating to the newer version (25.0) but the file doesn't seem to open.

The error message shown is;

Couldn't open "file_name.pdf" because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop. The file is created in this exact version (24.7)

OS is Windows 10.

I dont know why this error message is all of a sudden coming up in Photoshop, but it was never as issue before - Saving a PDF file from Photoshop, then I open it again and get this message... Super annoying!

Same issue!
I saved a Photoshop file (that I've worked on all day!) on the Creative Cloud at work, but now it gives the same error message when I try to open it on my home laptop, using exactly the same PS version.

Ok I opened it up in Illustartor and saved as a pdf, I was then able to open it up in Photoshop, but I lost all my layers. So dont do that if you need your layers.

Hope this process might work for someone having issue of psd or pdf not opening in current Photoshop version.

1. Try to collect and install Photoshop CS2 and ImageReady(CS2), its difficult to find ImageReady in 2024...

2. Open ImageReady > open your corrupt PSD file

it might take sometime to regenerate layers and open the file.

3. in that file some of the layers got corrupted. delete those corrupt layers and

4. "save as" with a different file name.

5. Then try to open with your current Photoshop version....

but in this process all of your smart objects (of older file) automatically got rasterized and converted into simple layer.

you have to rework on the lost layers or recreate some elements. it is better than recreating the whole design or file again.

One more thing to add here > huge and large files with multiple use of filters, effects or blend options might not open.

if this process worked for you just thank the divine power or whome you believed...

and if not worked try hard to recreate the entire design again.

wish you all the luck for your future projects.

João here!
Sometimes the problem is solved by removing any special characters from the file's name.
Special characters:
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/sync-creative-cloud-files.html
"Filenames that contain special characters such as |, ", ?, <, >, /, *, or : are not synced. Nor are files with reserved names, such as AUX or Com1. If you receive an error, rename the asset filename to sync it to Creative Cloud. For more information, see Error: "Unable to sync assets."

I am having this same problem still Sept.2024. Adobe help desk was unable to resolve it and just made it seem like it was a corrupt file on my end because their different files all work when trying to automate a PDF/open a PDF. If I open the PDF in a browser window and redownload the file then I can get Photoshop to open it the first time. After that Photoshop won't automate it to add it to other PDFs and save it and it gives me the error again.
