Photoshop 2023 (v24.1) 15 Second delay before launch starts after opening (Consistantly)
It doesn't consume any memory, it doesnt show up in task manager, it locks up all other programs from opening, including taskbar icons. The system doesnt freeze, start menu still opens and you can still use the browser for example.
What am I talking about?
I am talking about the amazing and wonderful photoshop, with yet again, a crippling bug.
My system specs:
AMD RYZEN 9 7950X
GIGABYTE AORUS ELITE X670 AX
64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 5200MHZ (2 Sticks)
CORSAIR MP600 2 TB
WINDOWS 10 64 BIT (INSTALLED 3 DAYS AGO)
What I have tried:
- Deleting preferences (Not sure why I would bother, none had been changed yet)
- Uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop
- No brushes or plugins have been installed so I did not disable them
- Installed Photoshop 24.0.1 - Worked without any issues
What I have noticed:
Event viewer spits out this warning after photoshop finally lets go of the LRPC and launches.
It is clear to me that photoshop is requesting something that is not provisioned, and for exactly 15 seconds (from the point I click the icon until it opens), it repeatedly asks LRPC for whatever it is that it is asking for.
This locks it in a loop preventing other programs from using LRPC (which is why no requests to open other programs such as clicking on an icon, or a system tray icon will activate until after photoshop launches)
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54}
and APPID
{15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}
to the user mysystemname/myusername SID (S-1-5-21-374282947-2861213829-2330704591-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
I strongly recommend adequate bug tests before distributing release versions of a program 10% of the world uses.
This is issue can be reproduced on my second computer, a ryzen 9 3900x with 32gbs of ram, same version of windows.
Additional notes:
- Windows is fully updated
- All drivers are the latest
- All components are 2 weeks old or less, and have manufacterer dates less than 3 months ago (for the first system)
- No plugins, brushes etc have been changed.
- No ram, disk, network or processor resources are being requested during the 15 window of LRPC being tied up by photoshop
- The duration is repeatly 15 seconds indicating some sort of hardcoded timeout for whatever request this is.
- Downgrading to photoshop 24.0.1 resolves the issue (indicating the cause being laden in the most recent update)
