Since a few days, Photoshop freezes each time when using image --> adjustments --> Replace color. I'm on Windows 11. I tried on the PC of someone else, and got the same issue. Anyone else encountering this problem? Any suggestions how to fix it?

Thanks for looking into the issue. I just did what @Ged_Traynor suggested and it seems to work! Normally it would crash immediately and now everything seems ok. Thanks a lot for the quick response!

In Adjustments/Replace Color, I was in the process of adjusting the RGB sliders when the program froze. I retried many times with same crash. I just updated to version 26.11.0. (Windows).

Hi, thanks for reaching out!

Please go to the Help menu in Photoshop, then System Info, and copy the text. You can share the info with us by either pasting it as a reply here or in a text file and sharing the file with us.

Meanwhile, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/3ICarsQ

Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/4nnmM3u

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks,
Nikunj

Hallo zusammen

@maaikev50062091 same issue here, clicking here to bring up the colour picker and using the eye dropper on the image seems to trigger it

Disabling this option in the preferences and restarting Photoshop seems to fix the issue

I have seen comments about issues with the Adobe Photoshop update 26.11. I want to add to the list. I use Windows 10 Pro. Once I updated to 26.11 Photoshop would crash anytime I tried to use color replacement. I spent hours in chat trying to resolve the issue and the steps never worked. I have hard to back-step to 26.10 so I can use Photoshop. If there is a solution I would love to hear it. I would also like to know if others are experiencing the same or similar issues.

Can confirm it, seems it has issues with certain color values. Rolled back to 26.10 due to it. Something about the change they made to the dialogue box certainly messed it up.

Hey, @acrossthecanvas & @istalo. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more information to help you figure this out. I couldn't find crash reports submitted with the accounts you've signed in to the community with. If you see a crash dialogue, submit it with your Adobe ID. Check here for more steps: https://adobe.ly/3Wpjx0B

Does this happen with the specific documents? Is it stored on an external drive or in a folder associated with cloud backup services? Working through a network, or an external drive, is unpredictable & is not recommended. Head here to learn more: https://adobe.ly/3A2G2zK

As primary troubleshoot steps; try these suggestions:

Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

After isntalling verison 26.11 a bug was introduced which causes photoshop to freeze when using the color picker and muanially typing in a hex value while using hte change color function. Resettting the preferences does not correct the issue, not deactiving GPU accleration.

All driver are up to date and system is running latest version of Windoes 11. Plenty of storage and Ram.

Upon rollowing back the vresion to 26.10, the problem is fixed. Therefore, the bus was introduced int he latest update.
