Smart object width/height values glitching when disabling Gaussian Blur

  1. Version: 25.11.0
  2. Mac OS 14.5 (23F79)
  3. Open the attached file, click the "artwork" layer, look at the width and height values in the Properties panel (they are correct). Then, hide the Gaussian Blur effect, and see how the width and height values completely change (to wildly incorrect values). Same thing happens when you remove the blur effect.
  4. I would expect the width and height values to change only by a few pixels when the blur is hidden or removed.

Note: I don't know how to repro this from scratch, I had to paste that smart object from one of my many PSDs where this was happening. If I bring up transform controls on the smart object and hit enter without changing anything, it fixes the smart object and all above problems go away. I still don't know why it happens though, and how to prevent it from happening again in the future. It is a big problem for programmatic work (UXP) where I need to size smart objects without their filters (boundsNoEffects sizes smart objects without their effects applied, but there is no equivalent for sizing smart objects without their filters applied, so hiding the filters and being able to read correct width/height values is essential).

Okay I can now repro this very easily. Here are the steps:

  1. Create a new document in Photoshop (say, 2000px width and 2000px height).
  2. Draw a rectangle shape on the default layer and hit ENTER.
  3. Convert the layer into a smart object.
  4. Apply a Gaussian Blur filter with radius = 0.4 to the smart object layer
  5. Save the PSD file and close Photoshop.
  6. Re-open Photoshop, re-open the file, and select the layer. Take note of the width and height values. They are correct.
  7. Hide the Gaussian Blur effect. You should now see that the width and height values suddenly change to width = 2000px and height = 2000px, which is incorrect. This is a bug.
  8. Remove the Gaussian Blur effect. You should see that still, width = 2000px and height = 2000px, which is incorrect. This is a bug.
  9. Open transform controls for the smart object, and hit ENTER without changing anything. You will now see the height and width change back to their correct values.
