'Some text layers might need to be updated...' causing photoshop to quit.

Hi everyone. I'm having this issue where I open a particular document which has text and photos. When it opens, a dialog box appears stating: 'Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update these layers now?' - NO, UPDATE or LEARN MORE.
I have tried both of the options, and on both attempts Photoshop quits. No fanfare, just quits. I have deleted the CT Font Cache folder and emptied the Recycle Bin, but to no avail. I have also unistalled the program and re-installed, again to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@Nilgai15 try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset
