*.abr file icons

Hello,

Although all my *.abr files are set to open with Photoshop, instead of the Adobe icon, they all have an Affinity Photo icon. I am not able to change this in any way.
Does someone can help me on this one?
Thank you in advance.

* Adobe Photoshop 24.6.0 - iMac 24 M1 macOS Ventura 13.4.1

Right click the .ABR brush file (windows PC) , choose properties, on the general tab you will see "opens with" click "change" button and choose Adobe Photoshop.

@PNog

If you have unsaved actions, gradients, swatches, patterns, brushes or anything else, save them all from their panel menus or you risk losing them unexpectedly. This is a good idea even if you don't reinstall PS.

If you decide not to reinstall Photoshop, having .abr files linked to Affinity only means that if you double-click an .abr file in Finder, it will launch in Affinity.

You have alternatives to launch (and install) the Brushes in Photoshop:

  • Finder: Right-click an abr file > choose Open in PS 2023
  • Photoshop: Brushes panel menu (lines in upper right) > Import Brushes

Fortunately you don't need to load Brushes multiple times a day. Once they are loaded in Photoshop, you can then keep those abr files anywhere until you need them again.

Hello Jane,

I always have all that backed up. I'm just not a fan of spending all my time reinstalling software just to see if I can change a small detail that might not even work. Now I have an iMac, but I've had a PC for 10 years and I've only installed Photoshop once and it's still working 🙂

If you notice the jpeg I posted above, the files are all already linked to Adobe Photoshop 2023. Problem is the thumbnails insist on not updating the icon.

Thank you so much.

Maybe a reinstall of photoshop using the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application will set things right.

I was reticent trying something so drastic to avoid losing all my settings.
