ACR to PS question

In creating a composite: If I bring an image into a PS canvas from ACR, make no changes or adjustments other than to crop the image or retain part of the image while discarding the unneeded part, then edit the image using the ACR filter from within PS, am I editing the raw file?  Is my editing equivalent to simply opening and editing the raw file in ACR?

No, when you bring in an image from ACR to Photoshop it's no longer a raw file, unless you bring it in as a smart object. Consequently, your editing is not equivalent to editing the raw file in ACR. You are editing an RGB file, even though you use ACR (as filter).
