Hello,
I'm looking for a very simple action to take an eyedropped color sample from the canvas and then simply fill that entire image with that color.
I swear this used to be possible on previous PS versions by just using a brush.
Can anyone help?

Yes, it is possible to write a script.
But you can create easily an action by yourself or simple use three shortcuts and one click:
Are you able to create an action with step 3 and step 4 ?
The same is possible with a script.
Have fun

Where have you found documented information of:
ALT & BACKSPACE to fill layer with foregroundColor?
Ps. is there shortcut to do same with backgroundColor?

Hi Kukurykus,
honestly? I do not know it anymore.
But I used this for years.
The shortcut for filling with background color is also quite simple: [Strg]+[Backspace]
And also for interesting for this thread: the Eydropper tool fills the background color with [Alt]+left-mouse-click
And not to forget:

I had to google Strg translated to Strong, to get to know for Germans it's Ctrl / control
the Eydropper tool fills the background color with [Alt]+left-mouse-click
It doesn't work for me, are you sure it's correct, can you give some example?

Opps. Sorry my mistake.
Eyedropper tool fills foreground color with left mouse click (like I said before)
and the background color with [Strg/Ctrl]+left mouse click (and not with [Alt] )
Excuse

You were correct about ALT/CTRL with LMB to fill with back/foregroundColor. Problem is with Eyedropper... - no matter

Eyedropper tool with [Strg/Ctrl]+LMB changes background color
Sorry, I still try:

[Shift]+[Alt]+[Strg]+
(creates a new layer above the active layer)
I forget to mention that I didn't know too. Only Shift & Alt & Ctrl to make new layer, that's enforcing dialog though.
Don't you use newest 19.1.2 update but 19.1 still? Maybe because of some bug you found?
Something went wrong: there are 4 videos, but thx for posting. Now I understand.
You did not mention you use Swatches with eye-dropper. It is why it did not work for me.
I add when you use Eydropper on image then you can use Alt (not Ctrl like with swatches) to set background color.
