adding a universal destination path in LayerComps to files script

An annoying behavior I'd like to resolve. Our studio uses a custom export "Layer Comps to Files" script. That script resided on a shared Volume, but the users have their own action that triggers the script. Each time someone uses it, the Desitination path always has My user and "save to" folder displayed in the dialog box. See image. I'm in the process of updating the script and would love for the Destination field to have a common save folder that resides on each user desktop, like; ~Desktop/Exported Layer Comps.

Is that doable?

You mention that your script is custom, but you didn't provide the code?

So all I can go by is the original Adobe script.

Try changing the following line in your custom script from (line 289 of 1312):

dlgMain.etDestination = dlgMain.grpSecondLine.add("edittext", undefined, exportInfo.destination.toString());

To:

dlgMain.etDestination = dlgMain.grpSecondLine.add("edittext", undefined, "~/Desktop/Exported Layer Comps");

However, there is no error checking or automatic creation of the named folder if it doesn't currently exist. This may not be a concern for you. This is simply pre-populating the Destination field when the script is run.

Edit: To automatically create the missing folder, you'd need to add the following afterwards:

    Folder("~/Desktop/Exported Layer Comps").create()

Yeah I would love to post the script but it's chock full of named client stuff, but here is what it does. The goal is to take say a TV monitor and add screens with 20 Languages. The layer comps drives all that locale change out, but the export has to result in a simplified PSD with very specific merged/named layers, two shadow styles under the TV, one having it's visability off, and a white background vector layer also off. No path, Alphas or Layer Comps.

The script call on a Client_Supplemental action via app.doAction. In a series of hiding, Creating Smart Objects, Rastorizing and a little wizardry to convert the smart object back to layers, you get the exact simplified localized files every time.

Other hacked scripting behaviours are;

Limiting the File formats to Tifs, Jpgs, Pngs and PSDs

Adding Transparent Tiffs

Embeding Adobe RGB in Png exports

Removing the index capabilities and checkbox

Last unresolved, self inflicted I'm sure, is the defaulted file format, while defined as the PSD, shows up blank.

Have you tried adding something like

dlgMain.ddFileType.selection = 0;

after line 759?

edit: In the original Script »Export Layers To Files.jsx« I guess line 1093

    dlgMain.ddFileType.items[exportInfo.fileType].selected = true;

handles the selection.

Thanks c.pfaffenbichler.

I added the first bit but still got the empty pulldown field. The list is under the blank. The order is Blank, PSD, JPG, TIFF, PNG

The other bit of code is the same as you suggested.

Thanks for looking into it. I think my tinkering with it has cause irrepaible conditions.

Its also not defaulting because i believe, the descriptor stores the last setting. Unless you dont use the store function for that particular part, it will always store it and always revert to its last used setting

At least, thats how i use this script. i have a custom version of a mixed one. Ive mode which does layercomps and artboards and i store everything using ObjectToDescriptor.

In the artboard to files jsx files it is used. The part is called "isOverrideSticky"
