How do I fix this problem?  Also I work in a Windows environment.

While in layers when I go to the adjustments window and select Curves, in Layers panel it does not show the curve icon but rather a circle half filled with white.  It does say "curves" but it's not showing the curves icon.  Picture included.

It is supposed to look like this:

All I am supposed to do is click on the Curves icon, it then shows that icon in Layers panel only in my case it doesn't.  Please help.  I'm taking a Luminosity Course and I can't mimic the teachers steps.  Thanks!

Its still a curves layer. The icon you are seeing indicates that it is an adjustment layer. When you click on it you will see the curves panel.

It is showing that way because of the size of the layers.

In the Layers panel, at the upper right you'll see three lines (a hamburger menu). Click on it and choose from the list "Panel Options"

In the dialog you will be able to change the size of the thumbnail. Choose a larger one.

I can't tell you how many hours I have spent trying to solve this problem.  Even the guy that developed the program didn't know this answer.  Thank you for my sanity!!!  You are a rock star.  Now I will go educate all the other people taking this class that's having the same problem!
