Adobe Camera Raw-Crop tool missing

latest update of RAW (# 17.2 - Feb. 2025) - crop tool is missing.

Can anyone tell me where it went?

The crop tool is not available (and has never been available) if you access the Raw filter via Photoshop (using say a JPG)  Filter > Camera Raw Filter

Hi Derek,

crop tool in Camera Raw was always there, regardless if jpg or PSD, etc. Now not there, regardless what file format. Please see screenshot of Ged Traynor above.

Now replaced by "Geometry" tool.

It's not there!

Just shows "Geometry" tool (see screenshot), which does not include a crop tool.

If you want JPEG's to open in Adobe Camera Raw and use the crop tool, enable this option in the ACR preferences

thanks for the reply.

I could always crop jpgs and everything else.

But now there is NO crop tool, nor are the settings options that you mentioned.

(see screenshot - no crop tool, just Geometry, none of the settings options)

PS: I found the RAW settings when opened from photoshop > Edit > Preferrences, but I had it always set as that.

Also - it's not the problem ... jpgs or other ... THERE IS NO Croptool!

@Tele55 that's the ACR filter preferences, you need to access the preferences from here

yes, did that after (see PS) in reply.

There my settings are exactly as you suggest.

And ... I always could open / process jpgs. (and anything else - including the crop tool)

That was not the issue anyways.

The issue is that there is NO crop tool anymore!! Regardless if using a jpg or other.

The screenshot here is with a PSD file.

@Tele55 can you post a full screenshot of the Camera Raw window, you should see this window, if you don't see that window, you're using the Filter > Camera Raw Filter

As I mentioned earlier, you need to enable this option in the Camera Raw references and JPEG's should open in Adobe Camera Raw, with the Crop option showing

Hi Ged,

I think I found the answer ... even though strange ... never noticed / had that issue:

There is a difference if

a) opened from Photoshop > Filter > Camera RAW Filter ... and ...

b) opened directly from bridge as (usually as a DNG, and sometimes as jpg)

... a) does NOT show the crop tool

... b) does show the crop tool

So, I'm not able to use the Camera Raw crop tool when coming from something already opened in Photoshop.

It is, of course, not a big deal since I can always crop in Photoshop.

But, through all those years, I can't remember that the Camera RAW crop tool only works when accessing CR directly from bridge (not from Photoshop > Filter, which I often do to take advantage of Camera RAW tools)

Please add anything that would clarify this further ... otherwise issue solved.

The answer was given earlier by Derek and later by Ged.

Although Camera Raw and the Camera Raw Filter have similarities, they are not the same thing and only one of them (Camera Raw) has the ability to crop. So to see the crop tool you need to open the image directly in Camera Raw rather than using the Camera Raw Filter from Photoshop.
