Almost every 'discussion' on here is essentially a reflection of a failure of the app to communicate effectively to the user.

This 'support community' is a finger in a dike, a place where people have to come to continue using this software - but ultimately they should use better tools.

Example. "greyed out" randomly, who knows why - a button will randomly be greyed out, it becomes unclickable, for no aparent reason. You literally have to search "_blank_ button greyed out" in here in order to figure out why on earth Photoshop or whatever adobe app you are using has decided [removed].

Another example, "Could not place the document because the current document has an input-only color profile." Ummm ok adobe, so you know that i want to place a document, and you have the ability to change an images color profile, and you know that 99% of people have no [removed by moderator] clue what that even means, but you want your user to do what now? You want your user to type out the error into google and then read for half an hour while they are fuming with frustration doing some inane research while all they want to do is their actual project.

What do you pay your employees to do? How many people are in your organization and you can't seem to figure out the basic idea that you shouldn't just randomly stop your users from being able to do something without communicating to them what they should actually do to solve the problem!

The color profile warning can sometimes come up because of an ill-written monitor profile. I've seen that a couple of times here.

This is a chain where one link affects the next. The document profile is converted into the monitor profile, and if one of those profiles is bad, the whole conversion operation can stop dead. Warning messages are by necessity generic and may need to cover thinkable and unthinkable scenarios.

Bad monitor profiles from some manufacturers are distributed through Windows Update. The worst offenders seem to be Dell, Samsung, Acer, Asus, BenQ and LG. It's a quite common problem. The way to deal with it is to use a calibrator.

Unfortunately the actual solution to the problem for most people is counterintuitive.

Since adobe offers no solution at all, the solution is to take a screenshot of offending image and import that.

Silly.  Many problems are BCAD  (between the chair and display).  Nobody claims PS and LR are easy to use.  It is for serious post processors.  If you don't need all of its superior capabilities, there are many simpler programs available.  The measure of satisfaction and worth are Adobe's subscriber numbers and ungodly profits.  Good for them and keep the upgrades coming.  I only subscribed one year ago and often think back on all I had been missing.  I owned PS 6 at work before I retired and had no idea of the great advances that were made since CC came about way back when.

Downvote. There is a reason why the tool has a GUI, if its true that the tool should not be easy to use as you claim, it would just be a CLI. Superior capabilities? I'ts mostly built on opensource software. You use 'ungodly profits' as a measure for satisfaction, that is strange - it is actually measure of exploitation - the difference between what they can pay people to produce the thing and the money they charge for it.

There are 30 million people who pay for a Creative Cloud subscription, and it's likely that every one of uses Photoshop.  There are still an unknown number of pirate versions in use which will have been hacked to defeat the protection, and we know that a lot of those users have the front to ask questions here.

Photoshop has to work with multiple operating systems from companies that continually move the goal posts breaking interactions with the apps that run on them.

Photoshop has to work with dozens of GPUs and their drivers; different input devices and their drivers and APIs, dozens of printer drivers, etc. etc.

This forum is approaching  111,000 threads from all the years this forum has existed.  Do the math.  All things considered, I'd say Adobe are doing remarkably well.

when 30 million people are using your software, you have an obligation not to waste 30 million peoples tome with such things as randomly unclickable buttons.

By @joefreshy

Common reasons include:

  • You are in a feature such as Type or Crop and have not yet chosen Commit or Cancel
  • You are in a text box in the options bar or a panel and need to accept or cancel what you have entered

You do not have to literally search for "_blank _button greyed out." Instead you can post a screen shot of your entire interface and let us spot it for you. Pressing Escape might also work.

Wow, a smarmy response from an old man who doesn't even know how to use photoshop. You say bye bye and then lurk around like a retired loser.

Jane, just google 'greyed out' and look at the nearly infinite list of people running into the indefinite yet often occuring problem accross all adobe products.
