Adobe suite for training?

Hi there!

I am a student in the business discipline and have been trying to learn how to use the Adobe suites.

Except I couldn't due to the humongous (for a student) price tag of monthly subscriptions of the CC range. I simply cannot afford to learn the software

Yet at the same time, the job board listings look for people with training in Adobe products - which basically slams employment block in front of students like myself

In some countries, you can enrol into Adobe instruction courses as schools are readily set up. Yet, in countries such as New Zealand, this is not the case. If you want to learn you either have to pay for all the software and teach yourself - or try to find that one institute that will teach you.

So, I am faced with three options:

1. Download the software on Torrent (yes, it's illegal)

2. Fork out cash and starve

3. Don't learn

I am against illegal downloading of software so I try to avoid Torrenting anything - yet in situations like this it is very tempting

In light of all this, my suggestion for Adobe is this: Could you kindly please create a learning-only version of the software and create own online teaching courses?

It could be modules that you can subscribe into - much like a mobile application where you pay to unlock a segment of the app. I would be happy to pay $1~2 per quality structured lesson on how to use Photoshop and Indesign, instead of $60+ per month and hope I can teach myself.

And by doing so Adobe can generate income both short term (microtransactions) and long term (increased user base). It would also help if Adobe-approved certificate is issued at the end of completion of all modules

If there are already sites or applications alike what I have wished for above, could you please kindly direct me?

By the way, if you just want Photoshop, the Photography plan costs just $10 a month and includes Lightroom.

There are educational discounts for the Creative Cloud Suite for bona-fide students. This is the UK link, but, hopefully, there should be a similar scheme in your region: Adobe Creative Cloud for students and teachers | Adobe Creative Cloud

I do know and understand that this forum is user-to-user, yet there are no other clear method to try to contact Adobe. Which I find is rather obtuse as direct feedback to Adobe is unavailable or restricted to scroll down menus. If there are, could you please kindly direct me?

As for the student discount I unfortunately do not qualify for the discount as I am not currently enrolled to an education provider

If you want to learn, say InDesign, you can pay a bit more and use the monthly scheme and subscribe for a couple of months.  You can also get 30-days free access the the Lynda.com online video tutorials. This would get you started.

There are plenty of free lessons on youtube. For me there are too many lengthy beginnner ones that don't teach anything you could not learn yourself. There are a few on youtube I like that have original useful content:

Your suggestion of YouTube lessons were my original plan, and have also paid for a month of suite prior to teach myself and try things out

However, as above only happened after my graduation I did not qualify for student and had to pay the full price. On top of it, I was working full time at the same time - i only could put in 1 or 2 hours per week at most for Photoshop. This eventually looked unsustainable and I've quit with the Photoshop as I couldn't afford it

The student discount is only good if you are a current student - so what if you are a recent graduate or a late learner?

If you are no longer a student, then you have to pay the same amount as the rest of us, so wouldn't you agree that Adobe is really fair in drawing the line where they have?

For the previous generation there was no student discount, video tutorials. Be thankful and consider yourself lucky.

Are you aware that there is student pricing for Creative Cloud? You do have to prove you are a student.

If you want a job in the Adobe applications, the only way you can learn them is to have them and to use them!

Yet New Zealand is not just one city, haha. We are two large islands (North and South), a small island at the bottom (Stewart) and numerous smaller islands.

The providers would have no meaning if you are located anywhere outside of Auckland. Say, if you are located in Invercargill and have desire to learn any Adobe products and you are not an enrolled student you basically have to pay the full price and teach yourself everything - which basically is a push factor away from Adobe. The story would be different if the products were not subscription model and just pay-once, though.

Haha, for a long-run (3+) years it would be a good investment, since you can break down the costs over the years - in accounting term. Also, once you pay it would be a sunk cost and you wouldn't have to worry about not using enough of the product within the subscription period as I would do now.

As for products I was looking into Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.

Truth be told, I already have Corel Painter and Open Canvas 6 so I do have graphics software and I do paint graphically as a hobby. So I do know the basics. And there are many other graphics softwares on Steam that's pay-once business model instead if subscription. Only reason I want to learn he Adobe softwares are for resume only.

Conclusion is that I just find Adobe a bit inconsiderate

The Creative Cloud Suite is a professional group of applications — in this context as vital, industry standard tools, the cost is trivial.

Have you considered Photoshop Elements, which is Photoshop lite and you can buy for a one-off payment.

But if the old pricing had continued then the price for the entire CC package would be well into the £1000s as it was when it discontinued.

In the UK Photoshop CS6 extended was £794 alone and the Master collection £2223 (see here https://prodesigntools.com/products/adobe-cs6-pricing-list.html ). To keep apps updated then you would have to buy again.

Be aware that not only does Adobe track down pirated software, but illegal versions often come with malware included. It’s not only illegal, it’s risky.
