AI denoise not currently compatible with this photo format

Community Beginner ,

I'm not sure if this is bug or not, but would love to hear if anyone had the same problem and found a way to fix it... So I've been shooting raw, CR2 files for a while, but AI denoise doesn't work for pictures that were taken months ago and I get the "denoise is not currently compatible with this photo format" text. It does work for pictures I've taken during fall or later, but anything from summer or older is an issue. They are taken with same camera and same format so I don't get it. I tried making sure I haven't accidentally used sRAW or mRAW either, but those should be different resolution and these pictures of mine all have same resolution. Shooting RAW + jpeg at the same time should create two files in different format so can't be that either, right?

Any suggestions?

If you have Lightroom Classic installed, you can look for this in the Metadata panel. If it says "Mosaic Data: Yes" here, it should be accepted by Denoise. If it still doesn't, I think we can say that we have a bona fide bug:

EDIT: just discovered that this only shows for DNGs, so you'll have to convert a cr2. But if you really want to find out, you can do it here.

// Ok found the cause too, looking at their original dimensions they must have been shot with mRAW. When I examined their properties earlier it showed they'd have same dimensions and info as my confirmed RAW files but Lightroom Classic shows different info.

What Denoise AI are you talking about? Is it Topaz Labs's DeNoise AI or something else?

Denoise only works with mosaic raw files in full sensor resolution.

When you get this message it means the file has been demosaiced into an RGB file. Most cameras have some file settings that will do this for various reasons. You mention M and S raws, but depending on camera model it can probably also be some compression settings.

Lightroom will also output demosaiced linear DNGs in some cases like the Enhance varieties and panos.

My suggestion is to contact Topaz support or ask a question on their community site.

The OP hasn't mentioned Topaz.

My reply was about Denoise in ACR/Lightroom.

Yes I'm sorry to forget mention a key detail but I'm talking denoise function when using Adobe Camera Raw and I use it through Photoshop.

I haven't changed any compression related settings (at least intentionally, maybe accidentally) and new files with same camera and setup work. Any idea if something can be done to my old files or do I just have to accept defeat?

Ok I did this and the files check No for Mosaic data. No idea how this has happened tho. 😕 Thank you for the help and effort (and thanks for everyone who replied the thread).
