Applying layer styles to layer groups

Is it possible to add layer styles to a layer group AND make those layers affect one another. For example, adding a drop shadow to three sepeate layers (shown on left) allows the shadow to cast on one another. But when the same effect is added to only a group, the shadow effect treats the layers in a group like a single layer (right). Surely this must be possible, but I've not found a way in the advanced blending options.

When you choose to apply the Layer Style to the Group it gets applied to the Group.

When you want to apply it to several Layers then do that. 

What is the real issue? 

Are applying the Layer Style to multiple Layers via »Copy Layer Style« and »Paste Layer Style« or via the Styles Panel not convenient enough?

Hey @c.pfaffenbichler thanks for your quick reply. The issue is quite simply that, workflow. I'd prefer to have a style applied to the group and edit that style direct in the Layers panel, rather than (1) edit the original style, (2) copy it, (3) paste it to target layers, or keep updating the style in the Styles Panel. But you've answered my question so I can sleep a little easier 🤣.

I appreciate that, if the Style is still being refined, applying it again and again can be a hassle. 

If the task is a frequent one for you it might be worth looking into a Scripting work-around. 

It might get a little convoluted but it should be possible to apply the Layer Style of the active Layer to all other Layers in the same Group.
