Batch conversions in Photoshop opening in Preview

Community Expert ,

I am running a bunch of conversions in Photoshop from EPS to four different formats: 72 ppi JPG, 72 ppi PNG, 300 ppi JPG, and 300 ppi PNG. I do this with four passes through File > Automate > Batch, because the destinations and filenames are a bit different for each file. After running the batch sometimes (I have not detected a pattern) the files open in Preview. Why is this happening and how can I prevent it?

MacOS Sierra, Photoshop CC 2017.

I figured it out. I had a Hazel action I forgot about that opened any PNG or JPG file ending with 300 and opened it in a Photoshop Droplet. I abandoned that workflow and deleted the droplet, so I guess Hazel was opening the images in Preview. I deleted the action and that solved the problem.

I think I would start by making sure that both file types (png and jpg) are set up to open in Photoshop.

Find one file of each type, right click > Get Info, make sure the Open With is set to Photoshop and click on Change All. Repeat for the other file type.

The filetypes are set to open in Preview, and I have no desire to change that. At least Preview is staying in the background, so I can continue to run my action in Photoshop. I think it would be worse if they opened in Photoshop. I want them to open not at all, just be converted and left in their destination folder. There is no reason for them to open and nothing I can see that I am doing that would require them to open.
