Blending Modes missing from Gradient Fill Tool in Photoshop 24.5

Explorer ,
Jun 04, 2023 Jun 04, 2023

The title says it all. In this version of Photoshop, the gradiet tool has been replaced by a new tool that creates a Gradient Fill layer. This removes the ability to use blending modes for the tool. 90% of my work relies on a Screen blending mode for the Gradient Tool, so this version of Photoshop is unusable. Is there an option in the settings to revert the Gradient Tool to the legacy version? I would think it would just be a checkbox in an easy to find location, but I'm not finding it.

Options reside in the options bar.

It's just a dropdown.

Do you have a screenshot of it in 24.5? In 24.4.1 it's there...in 24.5 I don't see it.

Thanks! The Gradient/Classic Gradient dropdown menu wasn't displaying before (see screenshot), which is why I was confused. After uninstalling and reinstalling 24.5, the option appeared.

In v24.5, if you use the gradient tool to create a gradient on a layer then it will add a gradient fill layer and the blend mode is controlled by the layer blend mode in the layers panel

If you use the gradient tool on a mask then the blend mode appears in the options bar.

You can select 'Gradient' (new tool) or 'Classic Gradient' (old tool) at the top left of the options bar. Note: this is different to the 'method' selection box in which classic is the slope of the gradient.
