Blurry Image Resizing

When I am resizing an image, there is a preview render of the image prior to verifying the resize. I am currently using photoshop for the purpose of small scale textures (16x16, 32x32, 8x8 pixels). However, every time I finish/confirm my resizing Photoshop retouches the image and makes it useless to me. I would much prefer the uneditted/unaliased image from the preview. How can I do this?

Your terminology seems problematic, Photoshop does not »retouch« the images, it resamples them with the method you either chose or never changed from the default settings … 

Could you please post screenshots taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible? 

What is the Resample Method you apply (Photoshop > Preferences > General > Image Interpolation)? 

Which ones have you tested yet?

Please excuse my poor use of language and terminology, I am not familiar with photo-editting and english is not my first language. I also apologize for my response time, I was off at work and was not able to view your response.

I haven't found time to adjust any settings or preferences within Phtotoshop, so I was using the default resampling interpolation, Bicubic.

As stated previously, I haven't changed any setitings so I have only used bicubic (which yielded the results causing my issues). What should I change to adjust the resampling to result in a sharper/more detailed image?

I would check the ppi and make it as high as you can, but when you reduce a picture to such a small size and then increase it, it will be blurry.

I see, I did what you said and you were right. I was able to produce smoother results when upscaling however as you said it lacked detail. It worked quite well for downscaling the size of the image though, so I will definitely experiment with using this.

Hi default,

When you are using your transform option (Ctrl + T) try changing your interpolation to "nearest neighbor" in the toolbar.

I did this and rescaled my image to find that it preserved most if not all of the details I needed for my image. Thank you!
