I noticed that in Photoshop 26.9.0 the Build‑up option is always active, even when it is unchecked in Brush Settings.
This makes it impossible to paint without build‑up.
The issue also occurs in the Photoshop Beta 26.10.0.

Hey, @Paolo Domeniconi. Thanks for sharing the details as requested by @Jeff Arola.
Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.
Does it behave as mentioned after a specific set of steps? What troubleshooting steps have you tried already? If you're on macOS, here is a good thread that can help you start troubleshooting this: https://adobe.ly/45AEdXI
Awaiting your response.
Thanks!

Hey, @Paolo Domeniconi. I just checked in with the team. This is a recent change in favor of performance with pressure-sensitive stylus tips.
You can turn off this behavior by adding an optional extension following the steps listed here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/enable-optional-extensions-photoshop-cc.html
You'll need to create a plain text (.txt) file in Text Editor on macOS > and paste this.
DisableTabletRepeatingPaintMarks 1
Save the text file as PSUserConfig.txt and paste it

Does the same thing occur when using a mouse or trackpad instead of you drawing tablet?
What kind of drawing tablet are you using?

Thanks for your reply! The issue happens with both an XP-Pen Artist 24 and a Wacom Intuos Pro pen, but not when using the mouse. There seems to be a strange connection with the Transfer setting: starting from some brush presets, disabling Transfer stops the buildup. However, if I reset all settings (Clear Brush Controls), changing the Transfer no longer has any effect and the buildup continues.

I downgraded to version 26.5.0 and everything works normally again!

Hi @Sameer K and thanks for your reply. I’m attaching the system info. It doesn’t happen after any specific steps, it occurs with any input tablet (except the mouse) and with any brush that has Transfer enabled (pen pressure to opacity/flow). One action I do quite often, maybe it’s just me, is using “Clear Brush Controls” from the brush settings.
I installed the previous versions 26.5 and 26.8.1, and the build-up works normally there.
The same issue in the Beta version 26.10.0.
Thanks!

Save the text file as PSUserConfig.txt and paste it in the location mentioned in the content above.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi @Sameer K ,
Thanks a lot, I tried the method and it works! Really appreciate the quick help.
That said, it’s a bit of a workaround, so I do hope this will be added as an option directly in the Preferences in the future. It would make things much easier for users.
Thanks again and all the best,
Paolo

@Sameer K I don't get why that change was made given that there is already a switch in Brush settings to turn it on and off. To disable that switch seems counter-productive.
Thanks for the workaround though.
