Question

Brush files compatible on one computer but not a second (same PS version)

Hi guys!

I'm sure I've missed something quite obvious, but I'm wanting to transfer some individual photoshop brushes from my work computer (mac) to my home computer (windows 10), I'm using Photoshop CC 2018 on both.

I'm able to "export" my preferred selection of brushes on the Mac, creating a new abr. file, however when I transfer this new abr. file to my Windows computer the brushes won't load, I get an error message saying they are not "compatible with this version of Photoshop" despite both versions of Photoshop being the same and up to date..

I don't think it's the difference in operating systems as I am actually able to import the original brush files used on my Mac to my Windows computer, which include the exact same brushes I'm attempting to transfer (such brush files just includes close to 100 brushes and I'd rather just import the few I want rather the whole lot).

So I'm assuming there may be an issue with the way I saved the files?

Basically all I did was I created a new brush group on my mac, moved my preferred brushes into that group and exported the group. Though I doubt it's as simple as that as that certainly didn't work haha.

Is there any way to transfer a brush selection from one computer to another using the same Photoshop version?

Thank you in advance!

Hi NickyBarkla,

As you're not able to use the brushes on your home computer, could you please let us know which method you're using to install/load the brushes into Photoshop on the home computer?

Also, could you share a .abr file with us so that we can test it at our end and let you know if it's corrupt or not?

Regards,
Sahil

Hi I have htis problem too with latest version of photoshop which says it is not compatible with any of my mutliple .abr files. Some are nerwly downloaded, others were working just fine in the past so the problem is not the files.
