Brush resets every time I switch tool in Photoshop

I am painting with photoshop, which recently updated, and whenever i click on the eyedropper tool for a new color to use with my brush, my brush resets to the default (?) and I have to reselect the brush i was previously using. This is very bothersome and never happened before my photoshop updated. How do I stop it from happening?

Hi there,

That shouldn't be happening, could you please let us know the version of Photoshop you're working with?
Also, which operating system are you using?

Have you tried resetting the preferences of Photoshop and see if that helps? https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. Migrate presets, actions, and settings

Regards,
Sahil
