Bug Report for Photoshop 26.0.0 on MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1: Text Tool Lag and Crash

Environment:

  • Operating System: MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1
  • Photoshop Version: 26.0.0 20240927.r.26 a733fda x64

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a PSD file.
  2. Select the Text Tool.
  3. Create a text box within the document.
  4. Attempt to type any text.
  5. The cursor switches from blinking, then eventually freezes.
  6. The spinning "beach ball" appears, and the application becomes extremely sluggish and then unresponsive.
  7. Photoshop eventually crashes without displaying a crash report dialog box.

Expected Outcome: The text tool should allow me to type within the PSD file without lagging or crashing.

Actual Outcome: Photoshop exhibits extreme lagging, freezes, and crashes without a crash report dialog appearing.

Thank you for the response. I actually figured out the issue. The psd file somehow got switched into 32bit mode. After noticing it and switching it to 8bit, the lagging and crashing ceased.

I believe this might be helpful for someone. Someone mentioned that changing from 32 bits to 8 bits resolved the issue. In my case, my file was already set to 8 bits. However, after resetting Photoshop settings and conducting several tests, I discovered that changing the color profile of my monitor solved the issue for me (which somehow relates to how color is managed in Photoshop).

Initially, I was using the default monitor profile (which comes calibrated by default). However, since my monitor is quite old, the color profile was corrupted and couldn’t find an updated one. So, I simply used a generic web color profile and it resolved the issue.

I will likely need to calibrate my monitor myself in the near future, but the difference is night and day now. Working with fonts is now as smooth as it can be on my Mac.

My version of Photoshop is 26.

I’m running on macOS Sequoia 15.1 (24B83).

I'm having the same issue, but my file is not 32 bits. it's 8 bits. and it's impossible to work with text on photoshop, is just laggy and blinkers and crashes, exactly as you describe.

Hi there,

We're sorry for the trouble you are seeing with Text tool in Photoshop 26.0 version. Have you recently upgraded to macOS Sequoia along with Photoshop or are you on it for some time now? Were you able to use the text tool fine with the previous version of Photoshop on macOS Sequoia?

Before I suggest you to try out something major, I would request you to try and reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps to improve this situation:

Go to the location of the preference folder mentioned below and rename it to back up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j)
macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] SettingsRename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation.

Let us know the status.

Thanks,
Mohit

Is Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 compatiable with PS 26.0 and LR Classic 14.0.1, also Camera Raw 17.0? Are there any known issues occuring?
