C++ exception when invoking Topaz Photo AI from Photoshop

Hi.
My wife does all of our Photoshop processing. She uses the Topaz Labs Photo AI plugin to do some of the editing. She's very pleased with it.

However, even though Photo AI works fine on almost all images, there is one that causes a C++ exception when she tries to invoke Photo AI from Photoshop on it. OTOH, editing the image using standalone Photo AI works fine.

I've discussed this problem with Topaz Labs and tried all their suggestions. But they weren't able to solve the problem. Their final suggestion was to ask for ideas from Adobe,

I've attached partial screen shots of the exception and the image properties. The original file is a 1.3 GB TIF file.

Has anyone else had this or a similar problem? Any ideas would be appreciated.

We're using Photoshop 2024 (25.5.1), Topaz Photo AI 3.3.1, Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19045), Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz with 16 GB of RAM, Asus motherboard.

Thanks
Bob Zarnke

@crzarnke my first thought was the file size at 1.3 terabyte. So, could it be that the file size while working with the Topaz AI Plugin and Photoshop, all three needing lots of processing power and RAM. Sure you have 16 gigs of RAM, but because you have all three (Topaz AI Plugin and Photoshop, and the file) processing the computer doesn't have enough memory which means you get the error message.

  • Is it possible to use the standalone Topaz Photo AI application for processing and then import the results into Photoshop.
  • In Photoshop Preferences, have you change the 'Performance, Scratch Disk, Image Processing, Plugins'?
  • Close any applications or web browsers windows. Especially if you streaming music in the background. If you have any files on the fesktop too, which eats up more of your computer's memory. This leaves less memory for your computer to run programs and perform other tasks. Removing files from your desktop can help your computer run faster.
  • Can you change the size of the file? I cannot see correctly does that file read 1800pixels x1200 pixels? Are you using the image for web? If so, 300 ppi is a bit too big, 72 ppi is the sweet spot.
  • Get more RAM?
  • Update to the latest Photoshop, Topaz Photo AI Plugin, and computer's graphics card drivers. Maybe you have older plugin and that isn't jiving with PS? Or vice versa?
