Camera Raw Sorting?

New Here ,
Feb 22, 2019 Feb 22, 2019

First of all, WOW, the forum design here is so convoluted it took me 10 minutes to find the link to make a new discussion just to post this. I am using Adobe Photoshop CC 2015. I am on Windows 10. I have tried renaming through Windows, and Bulk Rename Utility, using both alphabetical, numerical, a combination of the two, and I cannot for the life of me get my images to display in the order in which they were taken in Camera Raw. There are no options for sorting, so I thought renaming them in order would do the trick, but then it just does goofy stuff like arranging them 1,10,100,101, etc. I have multiples of the same shot and am trying to use the ones with the best focus and having to scroll through the entire list of 200+ files just to compare the ones I want to compare is not my idea of convenient.

I am going to update my Camera RAW Plugin and hopefully that does the trick. I noticed I was using Version 8 instead of the current 10 but considering how messed up everything is as it is I don't know if that will solve my problem. Just wanted to see if I was missing something because I'm tearing my hair out trying to get this thing to work the way I want it to.

Camera RAw will list the images alpabetically using the title.

However whilst Camera Raw is excellent for developing a RAW file,  it is not really the right tool for sorting images.

Use Bridge for that , or use Lightroom which combines image management with raw development.

This is usually done a different way, without having to rename, typically as described below; is there a reason it wouldn't work for what you're trying to do?

  1. View the images in Adobe Bridge.
  2. Mark the sharpest images with a star rating (such as 5 stars) or specific color label (such as Select). Either way can be done with a keyboard shortcut. The Loupe in Bridge can help evaluate sharpness quickly.
  3. Use the Filter Items button on the right side of the Path Bar to hide all images except the ones you marked.
  4. Choose Edit > Select All to select the images that are still visible (because they were marked).
  5. Choose File > Open in Camera Raw to open just those images in Camera Raw.
