Can't change text size in Photoshop 20.0.5 on macOS Mojave 10.14.5

When I go to type something in Photoshop the font size defaults to "--21474836.,(". When I change it, it will revert back to "--21474836.,(" and then the program will tell me that it must be in a certain range, automatically sets it at 0.1, but still does not show the font on the image. This has been a reoccurring issue on my iMac Pro. Previously I was able to fix this by clearing preferences or by uninstalling and reinstalling, however, this time that is not working. Any thoughts on how I can remedy this?

Hi there,

That shouldn't be happening, let us help make it right.

As you're not able to change the text size in Photoshop. could you please let us know the version of Photoshop and the operating system you're using?

Also, could you try resetting the preferences of Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Preferences in Photoshop

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes and actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. Migrate presets, actions, and settings

Regards,

Sahil

I am uisng the latest version of Photoshop (though I was having this issue on a previous version as well) and I am running it on Mojave 10.14.5

I tried clearing out my preferences, but that had no impact on the issue.

  • Which font are you using and what type of font is it -- Open Type, True Type or Adobe/Typekit font?
  • What happens if you change fonts?
  • Have you tried resetting the Type tool?   See screenshot.

Hi Nancy,

I have tried using several fonts, none of which have worked, nor has resetting the Type Tool

In Apple's Fontbook, Select all fonts and run File > Validate Font to check that all your fonts are safe.

Troubleshoot fonts in Adobe applications | Mac OS X

Could be a font cache problem, see step 8

Could also be damaged fonts, look at step 9

Those seem most likely, but check the other steps.

You mentioned reinstalling. That alone does not replace configuration and even old files that might be the problem.

You would want to use the Cleaner Tool: Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

I hope one of these steps gets to the problem.

Hi

Was the text ever scaled with Free Transform?

Can you change the Type Size with new text that you have just typed?

Hi,

No, the text would not appear from the start, so scaling it was never an option.
