Can't save cropped JPEGs as JPEGs

When I crop a JPEG in Photoshop 2024, it will only let me save it as a PSD, PSB, PDF, WEPB, TIFF or PING but  not a a JPEG. If if format the JPEG in other aspect, bit not crop it, it will save as a JPEG just fine. Any suggestions on fixing this...please? I need JPEGs! Using it on Windows 11 operating system.

@ralphfuller First go to Settings/File Handling and enable "legacy save as".

Second - while using the crop tool check "delete cropped pixels".

What could be happening is you are preserving pixels meaning your crop is creating a layer and the new save protocols give you formats that support this.

@ralphfuller

As @Kevin Stohlmeyer suggests, you are likely creating a layer and JPEG only supports flattened images (JPEG also only supports 8 bpc mode and no alpha channels). Save As will not list JPEG if you have these "extras" in the document, unless you enable Legacy Save As.
